Gauge (us)
Tell me about your history? How did you get where you are now?
Formed in 1999 Gauge was the result of the band Cab-7, whose break up was a split into two bands (Gauge & Trippin Default). With new member additions in 2000, the band shifted gears and the music became more diverse.
After recording a 2 song self-titled single for the song Waiting Around (Which was spun consistently on local radio), the band played non-stop in and out of their hometown. Playing with national acts like Suicidal Tendencies, Ultraspank, Endo, Nothingface, Chainsaw Kittens, Unearth, Brothers Keeper and The Beautiful Creatures, Gauge continued to push the single and garner anticipation for a full-length cd.
In May of 2002 the full-length cd Money and Sunshine was released. Recorded by Ata Rodgers (guitarist for Gauge) and produced by the band, and additional production by Troy Way. The cd represents a more honest stripped down sound, with more sonic impact. Money and Sunshine deals with the irony of self-loathing, while song like Nowhere and One Perfect Day takes on a more sarcastic tone similar to Waiting Around. One surprise to many was the amount of aggressive songs on the cd, songs like Dignity and Judgement In The Face Of Despair, take the band back to its hardcore roots. The cd itself has a feeling of love and hate all at the same time, hence the title Money and Sunshine.
With a new year ahead and a summer full of dates, Gauge hopes to continue its success and develop more material for their next full-length cd. Look forward to hearing more from Gauge in the near future.
