FURY (AUS)

Fury is one of Australia's most prolific thrash bands. Blending the fast paced energetic riffing of the bay area bands of the 80's and 90's with the technicality of modern death metal. With clean and harsh vocals, insightful lyrics and ripping guitar leads FURY are respected as masters of their craft.
Tell me about your history? How did you get where you are now?
From the humblest of beginnings, Fury have battled both the traditional adversities and the bizarre. Confined to a small country town, guitarist Ricky Boon was looking to fulfill a vision. He had the concept and the name: FURY. Rapidly losing his eyesight, he decided to invest his frustration and anger into music. Darren McLennan brought a fresh perspective towards Ricky's ideas, and the two guitarists have been an inseparable force since. Years of consolidation were undertaken in order to cement the ideology of the band. During this time Fury enlisted the help of Dungeon front man Lord Tim to record a 4 song EP. This led the band towards finding it's vocalist - Michael O'Neil. Within a short time after, Fury had enlisted session members and was gigging frequently within their surrounding regions, playing successfully in local competitions and gaining wide spread exposure on the Central Television Network. It was 1997 when Fury ventured 1100km to Sydney to record their debut album in a professional studio. In one week, the band recorded, mixed and produced fifteen tracks, nine of which were chosen for the CD. The CD fared well among fanzines and featured on many compilations world wide. The trio knew that to make the next step, difficult decisions had to be made. The band decided to relocate to the nearest capital city and so they trekked 500km to arrive in Adelaide. They went there to recruit full time members. Requiring a fresh injection of percussive ideas, Fury sought out the locally renown Derek Beauchamp. Derek had been playing in numerous thrash bands with varying success and leapt at the opportunity that Fury provided. Immediately, with Derek's support Fury surged onwards playing several large profile shows. This prominent exposure brought Steven Comacchio on Bass guitar into the line up and thus the vision was complete!! Fury began rehearsing songs for their next recording. In order to blood the new line-up in the studio - March 1999 saw Fury enter Powerhouse Studios in Sydney to record some new material, a track of which appeared on Blacklight Record's "Time-capsule 2000" compilation. This compilation is the biggest collaboration of world-wide underground bands that's been released to date. Another previously unreleased track from this session was contributed to "Down Under Ground #3", a compilation which featured prominent Australian metal bands. Fury's all-sweeping aggression was spreading far and wide, no longer confined to the realms of Australia. Los Angeles-based Dwell Records invited Fury to contribute a track on their upcoming Megadeth Tribute album. Fury's offering, Symphony of Destruction, was received well by Dwell Records and the band was invited to participate on their future releases. Further contributions included tributes to Death, King Diamond, Testament and Suicidal Tendencies. Scattered within this time were a number of showcase gigs, including an appearance at the Metal Meltdown festival. The next turning point for Fury was the March 2000 release Stigmatised. The EP was recorded over 8 days at Tony Nesci's in Adelaide. This displayed the ever expanding ethos of Fury as the new tracks had become far heavier and more brutal while still retaining the Fury style. "If you are into Thrash Metal it's a must. They are simply one of the best underground thrash metal bands around." 8/10 Agelos Kanarelis Accolades continued to pour in, praising the quality of the Stigmatised CD. The next twelve months included a torrent of mails and reviews which all pleaded for more music from the band. In a musical backdrop that was predominantly Black, Death, and Nu-Wave metal, Fury had provided a breath of fresh air and is leading a resurgence in the forgotten art of Thrash. Thus in the beginning of the year 2000, Fury began it's quest to satiate the masses with an offering of uncompromising thrash. Months of intense rehearsals and exhaustive studio sessions brought forth the creation that surpassed all of the bands previous works. Thus, Slavekind was born. After a string of great reviews for Slavekind Derek decided to pass on the drumming duties in Fury due to family and health reasons. Soon after in November 2002 Fury reached a new milestone in their career, signing an Australian distribution deal with Something For Now Records. Fury re-issued its back catalogue, which features brand new artwork and several bonus tracks. This thrust Slavekind back in to the spotlight, where is was subsequently voted the best Thrash Metal Release of 2003 by French magazine Metal Zone Productions. After the success of Slavekind, Fury took a break from writing original material to record "Blood, Sweat & Iron". This cd contained cover vesions of the pioneering metal bands, including Metallica, Megadeth, Judas Priest, Testament and more. This recording helped mark the arrival of Ricardo Vozzo on Drums and also featured several guest musicians including Steve Moore from Dungeon. Rehearsals soon began for the next album which will contain an unprecedented array of unrelenting and inspiring thrash metal. Due to the inability to play the new material, and increasing family and relationship commitments, Steve (Bass) was removed from the band. Although the arrival of a new drummer - Ricardo Vozzo - allowed Fury to enter the studio and begin work on their as yet untitled fourth cd.
