Some kind of rock/pop/grunge/funk/alt-metal band from Gothenburg, Sweden. Fungus is music for fans of dual distorted guitars (as well as clean guitars, for Nirvana-esque stop-start dynamics), screamed melodies (because that's how I sound best), powerful yet dynamic drumming and bass that is allowed to take a lot och space (watch out for Robin's occasional Claypoolisms) without overshadowing catchy songs, of which many would do pretty well as acoustic versions (give us an acoustic gig and we'll even do an acoustic version of Valentine if you like). Don't read this, listen to the songs instead! Will do weddings, birthday parties, bar/bat mitzwahs, etc.
Band/artist history
Well, we've had the same line-up since we started (around fall 2002/spring 2003). We've played a couple of gigs. Recorded and mixed a 6-track demo/EP plus a DVD-single for one of the songs. (Anyone want to get a hold of that one, mail dhakadice@hotmail.com) We don't have a rehearsal space at the moment but we will try to continue do gigs and keep the band going, as the members still live in the same city and the band is officially active. And when we do begin losing members (Yikes! "loosing members"), I guess there'll be an opening for the fan (yeah right, there's a being you don't see every day) who knows how to play the instrument we're missing at the moment (and preferably the songs as well). But that probably won't be happening for some time. :)
Have you performed in front of an audience?
Yup, around the Gothenburg area. Give us a gig and (in case of out of town-gigs) some bus/gas money and we'll be there. :)
Your musical influences
Well, I (Tomas) write all of the songs (Therefore I sing them. If you want to sing, write your own songs, these are MINE!) and though I'm influenced by a lot of different bands, since I listen to a LOT of different types of music (since I do NOT really listen to "styles", i listen to bands and in some cases, just songs), the influences that are easiest to hear are... Nirvana, Soundgarden, KoRn, Nine Inch Nails, and a bit of Primus and Sonic Youth... (You know, those bands who do have a special sound but also bother to write equally memorable songs to go with it?) I remember showing an old pre-Fungus (although definately Fungus-sounding) song to some people and I got the weirdest comments. Danzig...Megadeth? Those people must've had a really limited frame of reference to suggest such artists. (The song sounded like a cross between "Black Hole Sun" and heaven-knows-which Nirvana song) I'm NOT even slightly influenced by any of those two, and I doubt that anyone in the band is. Gimme Ghostface Killah over Glen Danzig any day baby!
What equipment do you use?
Whatever amplifiers and drumkits the venue/studio have. Cheap guitars to mid-price guitars (and REALLY low-end vocal cords I tell ya, at least when it comes to mine) and whatever amplifiers are at hand. Live, Tomas plays his Neville Strat with Ernie Ball baritone strings (68-14 baby), Christoffer plays a Fender Firebird, Robin uses on of his expensive 5-string basses with that kind of luxury strings that come in pipes and sometimes John brings his own cymbals to gigs.
Anything else?
Fungus also have their own signature beer. Alas, it's not for sale because of 3 reasons: 1. Swedish (and I guess also other foreign) laws prevent it. 2. All 65 liters of the first 3 batches have been consumed by bandmembers, friends, families and others, so there's nothing left to sell anyway. 3. No attempts (like "Fungus Blonde" or "Apspreckarnes Pale Ale") at variations of the original Fungus recipe ("Fungus Bruin") have been very successfull, so until I brew a new batch of the original Fungus brew, there is no official beer worthy of the name "Fungus".
