Shut your pie hole! Listen! Dance!Band/artist history
When 29 year old chemist Drew Nichols is asked about his music he replies, “It’s electronica with a soul.” In an anonymous genre such as progressive trance/house, Drew a.k.a. ‘Fumbling on Ecstasy’ has a distinct sound and style recognizable to even the most intoxicated of club goers. Once a religious clubber/“desert raver” himself, Drew now spends his free time combining lush progressive soundscapes over driving beats creating cathartic grooves to please the mind and move the body.
However, it wasn’t always about electronic music for Drew. He originally learned to play guitar at the age of twelve in hopes that it would get him laid. It never did. After being in a string of "metal hair bands" in the late 80s, and grunge alternative bands in the early/mid 90's, Drew decided to learn piano inspired by the works of Tori Amos and Sarah McLachlan. This would set the stage for what was to come. Fast forward to July 1998. Drew goes to his first rave at ‘The Glasshouse’ in Pasadena and takes his first hit of “rave culture”. That one experience would forever change the course of his life, condemning him to spend countless hours behind synths and computer screens.
Gainfully employed as an analytical biochemist at a leading biotech company near Los Angeles, Drew had the means and the motivation to build what is now ‘Drunk Slut Studios’ over the course of the following five years. His first attempt at composing dance music was done on a Roland XP-30 and a demo copy of Steinberg’s Cubase. Unfortunately the “save” feature was deactivated in the demo so he wasn’t able to finish his first song until he purchased the full version a few months later. After many embarrassing initial attempts, Drew started gaining skill and knowledge in the art of composition and production, as well as amassing a studio that would make even the big boys envious.
When Drew is not working on his own musical endeavors, he occasionally composes music for the TV industry in Los Angeles. Past works have included writing the score for the documentary “HiTech Vegas” which was sold to the Travel Channel and will air in Canada later this year. More recent work includes scoring short 30 second spots for the video gaming network G4 Media. Despite his forays into TV, Drew’s passion is still composing for the dance floor. Drew is now ready to release his sound and vision to those fog filled, laser-lit dance floors across the globe.
In a world of repetitive mindless arrangements of electronic noises, ‘Fumbling on Ecstasy’ is a dynamic ever-changing progression of meticulously placed melodies and sounds tailored to make you move. Treat your mind as well as your body to the new sound of progressive and listen to ‘Fumbling on Ecstasy’.Have you performed in front of an audience?Nope, I just like to play with myself at home.
