Electronica

Real bandname : Fredotchky_Machine.

Musical niche : Somewhere between electroclash, early industrial, discopunk and the so-called vibe per excellence, electronic punk.

Who's in : Basicly, Fredotchky_Machine consist of a music programmer, Fred. That's me. However, in live formula, Fredotchky_Machine becomes Fredotchky_Industries and feature currently three band members to it's lineup. Me, at vocals and programming, Oli, at guitar and backvocals and a drummer that still need to be fully integrated to the formula so we can throw his name officially (we're not sure he'll stay with us, it's a big try.).

Is Fredotchky_Machine liking ice cream : Yes, I do.

Band/artist history

My first attempts at music, under the name of DJ Echo, showcased experimental noise music. Telephone tones, radio wooshes, pink and brown noises... all mixed up and matched up in Cool Edit with pitch modifications and, you may have guessed it, a lot of reverb and echoes. An album featuring this material is still in the works.

But it really started when I got some real music softwares. I got armed with VSTs and got back to my real passion : electroclash, electronic punk and stoned-out music punches delivered with anger. Now you ask yourself, is it great ? Well, listen and answer... you're old enough to decide, whatever age you are. The only question is, do you have the conviction to ? I have faith you do.

Have you performed in front of an audience?

We're (Oli and me) currently working hard to "live-a-fy" the content so it is easier to do. Live is very cool as it is a way to change the music. In our case, this means passing from electroclash to punk in your face, with remnants of industrial floating all over the place. Also, the live event is a perfect occasion to add lyrics to instrumental music. That's the second part of our job right now.

Your musical influences

I like dirty guitars, fat acid basslines, twisted dark synths and monochord voices as well as very rich or fucked up ones. I'm not a guy of the middle or of the compromise : it like it raw or smooth. Not pseudo-raw. These bands/guys influenced me.

Zombie Nation/John Starlight - THE ultimate best. No bad song, no need for stardom. Just following the inspiration. Actually, I heard them when they had the hype of Kernkraft 400. I was bored of the clubs, bored of the radio and bored of music in itself. I downloaded their unaffordable (on import) album Leichenschmaus and experienced total enlightment. It had nothing to see with "Kernkraft 400" and can be seen as one of the precursor releases of electroclash. Pure genius. Lately, ZN formed a label. Nearly ALL artists on it are completely brilliant. Fischerspooner - Described by many as "the royal family of Electroclash". Yes, they are.

LCD Soundsystem - Discopunk in it's primal form. Great, raw, beat-oriented. May James Murphy and Tim Goldsworthy keep on doing that til the end of times.

I-F - The father of electroclash, today looking with horror at what he engendered by releasing the bomb "Space Invaders Are Smoking Grass". Even thought I adore electroclash as it is and he now hates it, I-F still do music that is seducing, picking back where disco left and originally taking it elsewhere.

Jérôme Minière - The hidden secret of Montreal's electronic scene. The electro singer is making one of the finest electronica and poems right now all in the same envellope. Jaw-droppingly great !

Mindless Self Indulgence - Crazy New Yorkers mixing black culture with 8-bit geekish-electroshit and a powerful punk attitude. The best is to see this band live.

Marilyn Manson - Rock wouldn't be what it is without Marilyn Manson.

Anything else?

A FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTION : Who the fuck is DJ Echo ???

DJ Echo is more than a simple nickname. When I am DJ Echo, I get into another persona, my psychology and ideology change. Echo is the mediawhore, the bad apple in my mind, the dark side of my creation process. Sooner or later, he will make an appearance in his yet to be named band. There are also rumors about a solo album containing the early pre-Fredotchky_Machine material as well as some new, harsh electroclash stuff. DJ Echo have nothing to see with the artist already registered on Soundclick doing "techno hardcore". That just ISN'T me.
