Band/artist history
Believe it or not I was born in 1972, in Lansing, MI. I don't have alot to say about my childhood but I learned the "hard way". In 1978, I met Stephen Ward. He remained a close friend of mine for many years and in 1991 he introduced me to Ellis Lee. I auditioned for him and he was so impressed with my voice, he asked me to join his group, True Destiny. We were a 4 man harmony group specializing in a cappella and ballads. It was in 1992 that I had my first experience in the booth and I felt at peace. From that moment on, I decided to pursue my desire. In 1993, Ellis Lee, Eddie "Javel" Williams, myself and Otha Barksdale b/k/a Fuzzy, piled in to the back of my 1987 Toyota Corolla Hatchback and headed for Chicago. All we had was the address to Jive Records. After finally finding it we came to the realization that we wouldn't be able to just walk in. There was a security door and you had to be buzzed in so we were stuck. Luckily, someone was coming out shortly after we got there, so I stuck my foot in the door to keep it from closing, Once we got to the suite, we were lucky enough that it was open, but was surprised to find someone sleeping on the couch when we walked in. We didn't know who he was and we didn't care. We just started singing "Slow Jam" by Midnight Star, with me on the lead. I remember it like it was yesterday. He sat up and was amazed enough to interrupt a studio session that was going on in the back. To our good fortune it was Mr. Lee (of R. Kelly's "Hey Love") and he was impressed as well. Unfortunately for us though, it was around the same time R. Kelly was preparing "12 Play". So we would be signed but "on the shelf." We weren't willing to accept that. But we did however, make one key contact, a man named LeMoyne. We had actually met him in 1991 at a show we did at Michigan State University. He in turn introduced us to a man name Starling Young. He was CEO and President of Gold Karat Records/Young Star Productions. He took us under his wing, put us up in an apartment, but wanted us to learn the business first. He wanted us to get jobs so that he wasn't actually taking care of us. His reasoning was that he didn't want us to owe him once we started to make money. It makes more sense to me now than it did then. Needless to say, one by one, Fuzzy ,then Javel, then myself and Ellis, all returned to the life we knew. I haven't seen them since. Ive spoken to Fuzzy and Ellis but True Destiny didn't make it. in 1996, I moved to Indiana to try and change my life. I didn't know anyone here except for the best friend that I ever had. She and her family took me in as one of their own and in 1999 she became Mrs. P. On September 9, 2002, Quinton Griffith and Joey Escobedo were murdered behind Brother II, Hessville, Indiana. I knew Joey's brother and he introduced me to BiGG TiGG. I did my first recording in almost 10 years. It was a song in Q and J's honor titled "When Heaven Calls". After that, I was a member of the CFL Records family. And now you can be part of history in the making...
Have you performed in front of an audience?
Occasionally I do, I would love to get more exposure (hint hint) Not a whole lot of venues for an R&B singer/songwriter. I love to be on stage!!!
