Frayed

After fronting their own bands for several years, Torbjørn A.Raae and Egil Clausen decided to join forces. After a while they discovered Jokke Arnesen, and none of them had ever heard such a loud drummer before. There was no doubt about it; he was in! The result is Frayed; a living, pulsating trio that easily surpasses the limitations of the trio-format. Frayed is tight, funky, dynamic, raw and hard - all at the same time! There's no telling how far this band can get..
Tell me about your history? How did you get where you are now?
Frayed was formed in the summer of 2001 as Torbjørn A. Raae and Egil Clausen decided to join forces. They recruited drummer Lasse Johansen, and started refining their sound. Their first gig was opening for Span in their home town of Sandvika, a suburb to Oslo, Norway. Thence followed a number of gigs in and around Oslo, including a successful showcase at the popular club Smuget in Oslo. The group started recording their first demo, which was more or less produced by Torbjørn as Egil was away seeking inspiration in the East. It was a crude effort, and not many copies are now available. As Egil returned, the band had a series of gigs lined up, and things looked all gravy. This bliss was cut short, however, due to Lasse leaving for undisclosed reasons. Egil and Torbjørn was not going to let this stop the band they had worked to build, and teamed up with Jokke Arnesen, drummer with another local band called InGlow. This obviously meant a lot of changes had to be made, but they all seemed to be for the better. Frayed redefined their sound with more catchy, pop-oriented rock tunes, although always striving to create interest with chords and melody. Jokke brought to the band a whole different energy, and the band is more together as a whole than it has ever been. He is purely a joy to play with. After rehearsing for little over a month, Jokke made his debut with Frayed at Olso’s Blue Monk, supporting Syracus. This led to Frayed entering the Norwegian “NM I Rock”, a sort of battle-of-the-bands. They secured a very respectable 7th place, beating 77 aspiring rock bands. This new sound led to Frayed teaming up with producer Harald Værnor at Vinegar Studio, a long-time friend of Torbjørn’s. This prosperous partnership has so far resulted in the three songs to be found on this web-site, with more to come. Early 2003 saw Frayed appearing on the CD Sidespor, a collection of 16 of the most promising new bands in Bærum. They contributed with the song “She’d Sing”.
Have you performed live in front of an audience? Any special memories?
Yes. We love it. We play around in Norway, but are defenately hoping to break out of our country and show others our rough and tight live preformances. All of our live shows gives us special moments.
Your musical influences
We have all very different musical background. We all have differnt view on whats good music, so why we can create music together are still an unansweard question.
