Hi there all you cyberkiddies. First off, if you managed to find this page all on your own, you've been searching the web for far too long. GO OUTSIDE AND SEE THE SUN! (Don't look at it directly of course.) I make sounds that please me, and I hope that they please others as well. I had a larger collection of really sh***y music on MP3.com but they are corrupt bastards, and after limiting me to only having three songs on display, they limited me to having no songs at all, as the site shut down in it's entirety.
Have you performed in front of an audience?
I do play live, but not electronic stuff. I play in a jazz combo with my friends. I both love and hate playing live. When I am at my ability level, it is the sweetest thing in the world. If I am playing something that is above my ability, it becomes torture, as I really really want to be perfect, and then I become discouraged and methodically plan things out on the computer. It is my electronic crutch. It's unhealthy, I know.
Your musical influences
I love the Bad Plus, Stereolab, Charles Mingus, Nirvana, Don Ellis, Miles Davis, and so many others. I am also really into the Tosca Tango Orchestra, who did the soundtrack to Waking Life. Another Major Influence is actually a friend of mine, Sherwin Young, who is studying composition at the University of Southern Maine under J Mark Scearce. Basically, if somebody is making any amount of good music, I want to get in on it. As far as electronic influences, I really like Aphex Twin and Squarepusher. I also dig the Chemical Brothers, but I don't sound much like them. They tend to have alot more texture in their music, which is bad for me, as I have a very old computer with very little processing power.
What equipment do you use?
I use Cool Edit Pro for cutting drums and other samples, and I use Jeskola Buzz to do all my mixing and synth work.
