I try to write music that strikes a balance between emotion and intellect. My work comes out of the 1,000 years of classical music tradition, even though I write in a wide variety of styles, ranging from highly abstract, dissonant works to folk or pop derived pieces.
I try hard to allow each piece to be itself, to develop in whatever ways the musical ideas seem to want to go. My goal is musical expression most appropriate to the work at hand and its purpose.
I am always seeking commissions and performances, and I am able to accomodate odd or unusual ensembles.Have you performed in front of an audience?I am a working pianist.I play light classics, cocktail jazz and ragtime. I also transcribe music for people into Finale software.
Another sideline is piano tuning and repair.
Your musical influences
My earliest musical influences were recordings of Bach and Stravinsky. In recent years I have absorbed more from jazz and other pop forms.Anything else?
It is very difficult to objectively define what is "true" in music, but I know it when I hear it.
