Unlike most current commercial bands, Folk Medicine is bringing creativity back into mainstream music. With their innovative fusion of rock, funk, and pop, this Nashville based five-piece act is transcending the traditional barriers between musical categories and reaching fans of all genres. They're a rock pop hybrid whose energetic live show continuously captivates new audiences and leaves them wanting more. "There are many trajectories and influences that each member brings to the table, but together the music all has the signature Folk Medicine sound," says guitarist Ty Hermann, "and we're not trying to be obscure, marginal, or cooler than thou - we like pop and we're not afraid to use a hook". Indeed, upon first listen to Folk Medicine's music, the melodies and arrangements are very accessible and stick in your head instantly. James Harrison's versatile and compelling vocal performances are embedded in highly creative structures that sound years ahead of the fodder of today, yet maintain a solid radio sensibility. "This is music for the people", says bassist Dave Cavallario. Folk Medicine released their first full-length album "Push Down and Turn" in 2003, as a collaborative effort with a noteworthy list of distinguished guest artists that includes Big Fella & Te Arthur, Varski, Summertime, Rock, Slug Veezy, and Young Byrd. Currently they are hard at work on a follow up release to demonstrate what anyone who has seen their live show already knows: Folk Medicine has grown into an act fully capable of standing on their own. They were highlighted in the summer of 2004 as an act on Mad Booking & Event's Dancin' in the District Festival, sharing the stage with The North Mississippi All-Stars. They are currently tearing up the club scene throughout the southeast causing a larger stir with each performance. There is much promise in this talented group's future, and with hard work and dedication, as well as a desire to make new friends at every moment, Folk Medicine views the sky as the limit.
