Flying on Instruments
Make sure your seats are in a comfortable position as Flying on Instruments takes you on a musical journey around the world. Our compositions will take you to the streets of Mexico, beaches of Brazil, back alleys of New York City, the jungles of Africa and even a roller skating rink of Mars! Your pilots on this journey are Kevin Brace on saxes and wind synthesizer, and Norm Dorrell on vibes, marimba and percussion.
Tell me about your history? How did you get where you are now?
Flying on Instruments has been performing in the Philadelphia area for the past five years in a variety of configurations. Kevin Brace and Norm Dorrell are the constants as they perform in a duo, trio or quartet formats and have been helped out by some great musicians including Mike Vogelman, Brian Donat, Scott Ruba and John Digiovanni.
Have you performed live in front of an audience? Any special memories?
We love playing live, it gives us the ability to take our original songs in so many directions.Some of our regular spots are The Treehouse in Collingswood, NJ, Gallucio's Wilm. DE.
Your musical influences
Some of our influences are Miles Davis, John Coltrane, Wayne Shorter, Bela Fleck and the Flecktones, Weather Report, Sting, The Beatles, Yes, String Cheese Incident and The Grateful Dead.
What equipment do you use?
Kevin Brace- Tenor and soprano saxes, Yamaha wind synthesizer. Norm Dorrell - Vibes, Marimba and percussion.
