Fliss
Australian singer/songwriter based just south of Byron Bay, Australia.Band/artist history
"My heart lies with the ocean, my family and my music"
I started singing and playing guitar at the age of 13. Composing songs came naturally to me from the very beginning. As the years passed by I shaped and developed my own style to become what it is today "Fliss"
I formed an all girl 4 piece band at high school, called WOMB, which consisted of original grungy rhythmic guitar grooves and rap verses screaming with a very bizarre lyrical content like "let's vomit tomatoes"! We won the regional battle of the bands and played in many halls around town to adoring head bangers! I was only the guitarist and felt like I needed to sing as well, so I quit. At the tender age of 18, I moved down to Nelson on the South Island of New Zealand to study a Contemporary Music Performance Course. I joined forces with a like-minded girl to create OVUM, an original duo. In 1996, we won the hearts of the Dunedin music scene with our delightful harmonies. We had a fruitful year touring and releasing an 8 song EP.
I still felt that I wasn't on the right path. So, I uprooted and flew to Australia where I could work on my solo career. Since then I have met the love of my life 'Birdy'. As a team we have travelled around Asia, Europe, Australia and New Zealand, snowboarding, surfing, playing music and making babies! We now have two beautiful daughters Sky and Kayla Star. With Lennox Head as our home base, I spend most of my time being a proud and busy mum. In my spare time I do plenty of recording in our home studio and also enjoy daily excersions to the local surf breaks.
My most recent project has been creating a soundtrack with 'Birdy' for a local surf movie called "All Summer Long".
I'm currently recording my solo album "Oceanheart", to be released later this year.Have you performed in front of an audience?Yes... Locally at Lennox and Byron Bay, Australia
