Tell me about your history? How did you get where you are now?
We are just four regular guys from Fresno, California, that just happened to get lucky and form a band. It actually is an interesting story about how we all came together and formed the Flight that you see today.
Earlier on, Rick and Tim were involved in another three piece local band by the name of ?KarpApooN?. Shaffer and Kyle were involved in the original line up Flight 409, playing as a four piece. KarpApooN would soon come to an end and lose its lead vocalist/guitarist (Rick) due to musical differences. Over time, Rick actually joined Flight 409 creating a five piece with a new outlook upon musicality.
The five piece line up stayed strong for only one year. Tension eventually rosebetween certain players and created a difficult business/working environment.
A local show was booked on the night of May 16th, 2003; but things didn't turn out the way anyone could have expected. The original lead vocalist (Andy Thornton) dug himself into a studies problem, restricting him to participate in the show already booked. Rick had decided that it was just a bump in the road, and shoved on.
Two days from the show, the original drummer (Sal) made a phone call to his band mates; informing them of his refusal to play without all members present. Rick, Kyle, and Shaffer took it as another offence in dedication, and made the decision to hire a ?fill-in-drummer? to cover for the show.
With no one to call, Rick had one last resort? His former drummer from KarpApooN. Rick had reframed from calling Tim in fear that he would still have unresolved feelings from the break up. Surprisingly, Tim jumped at the opportunity.
Tim endured a constant beating of musical memorization. With only ?one day? prep for the show, Tim managed to pull off five of the nine original Flight songs, and a KarpApooN cover for old time?s sake. The crowd, not knowing what to think, was shocked at the performance. A bad vibe filled the entire night.
Even though the crowd was displeased, the new set up was indescribable. Shortly after the show?s end, the guys took Tim to a local spot to discuss his future, along with the bands. With out questioning, Tim said. hell yes. The new Flight was formed. and this time for it was for good!
Have you performed live in front of an audience? Any special memories?
