Fleur
Welcome to Fleur's eMusic Site. Fleur's music is emotional, deep, dark and progressive. Fleur (Nicole Fleur Spilane) has been writing and performing for 13 years and has inspired friends, family and followers. Nicci is a now a prolific writer, always looking for collaboraters and other musicians to record with internationally. Nicci is also sister of Daniel Spillane who is a finalist in Australian Idol 3. They have recently been performing together in party band BAM in Brisbane, Australia.Band/artist history
Fleur’s music career has wound around many obstacles, following an incredible, nonetheless unique path. Fleur’s musical existence began when she was born in Wellington, New Zealand as Nicole Fleur Spillane. Her family moved to Australia when she was five where she was brought up in a peaceful musical household. Daily doses of bands like Pink Floyd, Little Feat and Nat King Cole have undoubtedly influenced natural style. Fleur was educated at Mater Maria College in Sydney’s Northern Beaches and successfully completed a Bachelor of Education whilst concentrating on her songwriting and recording.
In 1990, she formed an alliance with Paul Radcliffe, a well known Australian producer who had retired from the big label industry to focus on staring his own beachside studio business. Paul was known for his work with the ABC studios in the 70’s and 80’s working with Dragon, Machinations and Billy Field. Fleur was involved in many of Radcliffe’s recording projects. During this period she recorded over 17 tracks, concentrating on a variety of styles including jazz, contemporary rock and blues. In 1997 she was was married to former Wallaby, Andrew Heath. Andrew has come to be Fleur’s number one fan and is currently enjoying assistant roadie and chief groupie status.
Fleur is a songwriting machine and has been known to write over 10 songs in a day. Tapes, manuscripts and notes are often found discarded and forgotten in the stranges of places. Fortunately, whilst Paul Radcliffe’s studio was local in Port Macquarie, Fleur managed to record four of these originals. Fleur was involved in an act called ‘Girls on Top’ that was short lived due to musical differences. In hindsight, she looks back on this as her personal ‘Spinal Tap’ days!
Fleur spent the two years in wine-rich Languedoc region in the South of France forming and touring with her French speaking band ‘Bad Boy Bubby’ and duo act ‘Fred & Fleur’ - the former act named after the award winning Australian film. During this seemingly surreal period in her life, she formed many musical and cultural connections and managed to produce two demonstration recordings with both groups. By the time of her departure, ’BBB’ were indeed a hot and sought after act, playing a blend of retro, heavy and progressive rock, a complete inversion from her previous musical projects. Despite this departure, the group still exists today and plans to visit Australia for reunion with Fleur and an East Coast tour. Fleur dedicates her first CD compilation ‘Two Worlds’ to each of her two lives: her life in Australia and her life in France.
Today Fleur resides in the hills behind Brisbane continuing her writing and performing. Her originals reveal a myriad of mystical, emotional and intense moments, interlaced and moulded with Radcliffe’s production. In 2003, Fleur performed with Woody Dean's well established duo/trio called 'Smooth & Groove'. She now performs monthly at Brookfield Showgrounds and is also writing material for her next CD as well as providing session vocals for a variety of performers.Have you performed in front of an audience?Nicci plays live with a vriety of musicians at irregular parties and functions as well as 1st Friday of every month at Brookfield Showgrounds.
