Flatline Muzik

Flatline Muzik- aim is to put out music, period. Music that a ten year old can listen to and dig, and a forty-five year old Caucasian man can listen to and dig. It's really just music for the masses that's really how I describe our sound. Its got a lot of elements of our four fathers were this thing all originated. It got elements of jazz, pop, r&b, rock and everything kind of bundled into one. Its groovy, and catchy, and if it ain't got the funk then it aint NekOne. As far as content we have a lot of power hitters on the team like Paq Man and myself. We try to keep it righteous yet street dirty. Like Talib Kweli said "is the dawn of the MC that thinks before he spits" and we're really trying to represent that.
Tell me about your history? How did you get where you are now?
In a business sense it's an independent label for the most part, but we do have multi-media people, video production shooting and editing, sound work studio engineering, we offer a wide array of services to the general public. We really are kind of careful with whom we get involved with as far as type of projects we want to involve ourselves with. If we feel someone isn't portraying the right message we're not at a point were we need the business in that sense, it's really more of a home grown project and we're really doing everything to cater to our listner and fan, and not so much the industry! So more than anything beyond a small label, we are a family. There's a certain motto that we go by, certain ideals that we represent. We try to work with artist that are in the cutting edge and have a hot sound and not necessarily someone who's going to sell millions of units.

Your musical influences
We have to separate influences into different music genres because there's so many people that influence us and that have contributed into making NekONe the musical monster that he is. I got to start with the first people that planted the seed in me which was artist like Anita Baker, Michael Jackson, James Brown, Marvin Gaye, Herby Hancock, Grover Washington Jr. and Stevie Wonder those are real geniuses that I admire and that are universal in there appeal as far as music. On the hip hop end I've been truly inspired by people like 2 Pac Shakur, DJ Quick one of my favorite producers out there, Jay Dilla and even Dr. Dre I feel real hip hop is coming back with people like Kanye, Common, but I really look up to a lot of people that are willing to take risks and put that creativity out there and compromise themselves and expose it to people regardless of what the mainstream says is hot and that's why I respect people like Jay Dilla, and artists like Talib, Hi-Tech, Mad Skillz, Big L- who put a real creative product out there that the mainstream may not necessarily think is hot but once people listen to it, music is music, hot music is hot music, so those are some of the people that have played a role in shaping my ideology as a musician.
