Five Mile Line - formerly known as m10MeG - is a band from Rochester NY. Five Mile Line has played with bands that come from all over the country, including Don't Look Down, Punchline,Third Estate, Act Your Age,Murdock and more local bands. They play gigs at local clubs, parks, bars, concert halls, school, anywhere they can get their hands on. Five Mile Line is engulfed in their music and talent and will continue to rock it out until they die! Just to let you all know, we do not consider ourselves punk. We are not punk. Punk were teh Misfits, and for a longer list, see our comments page. We play music. People like our music. If you dont' like our music then don't listen to it. Later.Band/artist history
The Five Mile Line started with two little punks named Mike and Tim. Out of boredom, these brothers one day decided to start a band. With Mike on drums and Tim on bass, they set out to find a guitarist and singer to complete their lineup. As luck would have it, their friend Dave happened to be a guitar player (of sorts) and a singer. And so it started. Taking the name "Revile" out of a thesaurus, they began to make crappy little four note progressions with no lyrics. This began to get boring also, so in order to end this streak of crap-instrumentals, Mike decided to try his hand at writing crap lyrics. It worked out very well. From then on, Mike was the band's principle lyricist. This tinny little basement band known as Revile became an alternative band writing sadly depressing songs with slow, mind-numbing melodies. The kind of stuff that makes you want to stick your finger through your eyeball into your brain and start swishing it around. The addition of their friend Grayson didn't help much. Though Grayson is an amazing guitarist, his metal influence on the band was just not healthy for anyone's morale. Especially after an embarassing first performance at The Waterstreet Music hall in June 2000. After witnessing an energetic punk band called Third Estate,(maybe you've heard of them) and seeing their first Blink 182 concert, Mike and Tim finally decided to change the band's tone and become a "punk" band. This did not go over well with Grayson, who had to be expelled from the band in order for them to progress. Taking the name "m10MeG", Mike went to work writing punk songs influenced by his then idols Blink 182. One year later, they performed at the Waterstreet Music Hall at another battle of the bands with a slew of pop-punk four chorders. This performance went much better than the last and the members rejoiced. Over time, the band would go through several changes. They added their friend Brandon in on back-up vocals, hoping he would eventually learn guitar and help with that too. He never did. They also changed their name from m10MeG to New Dependence, then back to m10MeG. The final name change would come following a performance at Parkview Lodge in Webster. In order to get to Webster from their home town of Churchville, they had to drive along Five Mile Line Road, and thus, they stole the name from a roadsign. Some cockmasters in Webster weren't to happy about that, but m10MeG said "Eat Shit, we're changing it to Five Mile Line". Eventually the band would go through position changes like it was their job. Tim, the humble bassist moved to guitar to augment the sound with biting guitar harmonies, and Brandon would prove his worth in the band and move to bass. This evened out everything and the band members rejoiced. Also, Mike had written a string of about 30 brand-new performance-worthy songs, however requiring a title change for their lack of true punk value. The band began to label themselves an Emo band for whiney vocal melodies, and heart-broken-all-girls-hate-me lyrics. Following these changes the band played a small string of relatively successful performances. However, there was trouble in the band. Growing tensions led to personal problems and differences in commitment and Brandon decided to part ways with Dave, Mike and Tim. This proved to be an almost-good thing because Mike's cocky restlessness would not allow him to stay on drums any longer. In a matter of days he would replace Brandon as the bassist and vocalist. Not such a huge change for him since he had experience with bass and electric guitar.(How do you think he was able to write the songs?) This change made Mike happy and the band members rejoiced,...UNTIL they realized they had no drummer. Unfortunately, Mike's talent would bite him in the ass, meaning that after 6 years of playing drums, he had become so good that replacing him proved to be an exceedingly difficult task. And with a bunch of new shows lined up, it was safe to say the band was in deep shit. BUT...A BLESSING! The band would find a perfect surrogate drummer in Kevin Mahle. You might know him as the Singer/Guitarist of 8Pointblank. Kevin was kind enough to fill in for the next couple of shows, helping to show the band their true potential as showmen with Mike, Tim and Dave going nuts in the front. This combination of hard-core emo and stage presence won them 2nd place at the Harro East Ballroom battle of the bands. The same show they had bombed at Waterstreet three years earlier. What a way to stick a middle finger up at the people that said "You suck!". Unfortunately once again, Kevin's run with the band ended and now Mike, Tim and Dave must start their long odyssey, scouring the Earth for a drummer who fits both their musical style and gets along well with the band and their attitude for caring about nothing but playing on stage. "WHEN CAN I GET BACK ON STAGE!!??"Mike
