Five Diggy Producer/Recording Artist Born and raised in Brooklyn, Ny since the tender age of 12 been making music pop. I started out with two turn tables and a desire to make a difference. Ive rocked parties from the block to the around the way clubs and it was the feeling of giving people what they wanted to hear made me hunger for more. I guess you can call my first set of turntables my gateway drug. It was during those times that I began recruiting a massive of emcees to spit while I cut and began to really get nice at it. I played baseball in high school and was good enough to earn a full scholarship to Ranger Jr College in Ranger, Tx. This is where I began writing lyrics and performing at the college parties/step shows. People welcomed me and my style with open arms. I knew then that I had something more to offer. Shortly after college I enlisted in the US Navy and all of the real shit began. Being out to sea for an extended amount of time created a hunger for mischief and promiscuity. There have been nights that I was so drunk I cant remember how I got back to the boat. Over seas is where all of the tight pieces of equipment were being manufactured so I got some good deals over there. Not really knowing how to use the stuff I was buying, I began to experiment on some real primitive type shit. Believe it or not, this is where I made some of my hottest beats to date. I had cats that didnt spit wanting to learn how. From there, I as a producer was born. When I finally got home and out of the military, I linked up with some of my peeps in flatbush and we formed a group called Maja Damage. It consisted of eight members and we were hot on wax as well as shows. Keep in mind, this was before Wu-Tang surfaced so labels were not used to having a group so large comprised of emcees. We did catch the eye of Cold Chillin Records and signed a deal with them. Shortly after the deal was signed they went into chapter 11 and we were back on our grind. Some of the members became discouraged and fell off. We were left with three, so we started from scratch and called ourselves AMB (Americas Most Blunted). We made some noise with that and managed to spark the interest of a small label by the name of Nine Eleven Records. Things were definitely looking up because we were their primary group and they had the help of Full Force to convert our raw sound into a marketable pallet. One night during a session at B-Fines house, a member of Full Force, one of the my group members stole $50.00. Needless to say, B-fine didnt want us in his house anymore. After that, Nine Eleven cut us loose and we were back to square one. The member that actually stole the money dropped off and it was two of us left. We started again from scratch and came up with the name Soul Survivors. We immediately got the attention of Dave Love at VP Records who inturn wanted to sign us. This time I wanted some guarantees that he could not offer. Back then I didnt understand so I was most definitely upset about the whole issue and really didnt have anyone to blame but myself. From that point I decided that I would go solo and focus more on my production. I began producing my brother(Essence Donn) along with Lord Digga, Marley Marl, and Richy Rich. We struck a deal with Freeze Records and once again it was on. This time it really seemed like everything was going to happen. We had completed the album which I had produced 10 cuts on. We shot a video that was directed by Dave Daniels and was on a promotional tour with Frankie Cutlas and Fat Joe. When we got back from the promo tour, my brother went up to the label the next day with two of his homies and pistol whipped Hershey the a&r, took his rolex and shoved it into his mouth. Needless to say, that deal was out the window. He did a five year stretch for that and has probably been black balled ever since. I, on the other hand sat around feeling bitter and wondering what my next step should be. I sucked it up and ventured forward. Soon after that I got married and moved to Baltimore, Md where I linked up with a gang of niggas trying to do their thing. It became an inspiration to me and I began working on my solo album. During that time, my brother was released from prison and came to visit me in b-more. He had some ideas on making moves as an independent entity. What can I say, love is love so I supported the idea even to the point of putting my album on the back burner to work on his project. We put together a compilation album called The Gun Collection and had a couple of key features such as Mobb Deep/Zab Judah/Dmello and Brandy. It did very well but in the back of my mind was my unfinished solo album. I came back home to b-more and commenced work on that entitled "The Fifth". The one thing that stays fresh in my mind while working on my album was how difficult it was to do the song I dedicated to my late sister. She was murdered some years back I felt it necessary to touch on that. When I was finally done with "The Fifth", I found that it was long awaited from the hype built up with the gun collection along with the struggle I had gone through to get to that point. It also did very well on street sales. Currently I'm Working on my sophmore album entitled "Back on the bottle. The title cut "Get Twisted" features Butta B, A local artist from Hazard County. There are several features on the album such as Born King, Tislam, Nic Soprano, & Gem Powaz. I had the pleasure of stting down this past weekend and putting together A song with Eternal Koncepts which will probably be my first single off the album. Its all about to come full circle from where im sitting and im just enjoying the ride.
