Fill In The Blank was formed during late 2002 in Longmont, Colorado. Three of the band's four memebers, Ricky Yaner, Phil Kulikauskas, and Kurt Dageforde were all friends from the high school tennis team, and every so often they would get together and play covers for fun. Eventually, David Sutherland who was a friend of Kurt and Ricky's, but not involved in tennis like the other three, was brought in to be a bass player. At this point in time, the four were still playing covers of different songs, and the first "breakthrough" came when they decided to make a punk cover of a slow love song, "Truly, Madly, Deeply." This was a breakthrough because it lead the group away from playing songs as they were supposed to, and forced the them to recreate the song as rock, only leaving the chords the same. Eventually, the four decided that they should attempt to write their own songs. However, they did not know how to go about this and at first compiled a list of things to write songs about. This list was full of joke songs more than anything, for the most part, devoid of anything serious. The first song that was written was "Excuse My Ass", which later turned into a serious song and renamed "Say What You Want." After some hard work, the lyrics were finalized, and music put to the lyrical set, and then, the song was recorded. This first song was shaky at best, but being the band's first ever original song, it was quite an accomplishment.
At this time, the band was still unnamed, and the foursome decided that they were in need of one. One day while out at lunch, "Nuke The Whales" somehow came up, more as a joke name than anything, but for the time being it stood. Eventually, Phil and Kurt decided that it was time to rename the band, and the four band members all got together and brainstormed for a while and eventually settled on the name Fill In The Blank. Under this new name, the band continued to work, and as time wore on, the lyrics and music to go with them became better and better. As is stands right now, the band is still a small local band operating out of a basement, but they are constantly working and improving themselves, continually developing their own unique sound. With their meaningful lyrics and unique brand of music, Fill In The Blank shows some true ambition and promise.
