Feral

Feral is a tight, heavy-groove oriented band. We are 5 guys who all enjoy a variety of diverse music. Our message is plain: the world is too tame, and people follow too easily. Lighten up and think for yourself!
Tell me about your history? How did you get where you are now?
Of Bunnies, metal divas, and all around "brotherly love": Back in May of 2001 Rob and our old singer Jeff were looking to form a band. They hooked up with Kurt and started writing. James answered an ad in the Phoenix New Times and with his audition; everybody knew it was going to be something special. The song writing intensified and the search for the final member ended when Kevin answered the call. James had a name idea, which was Feral and we all agreed that was a good name. We began looking at our band image and comparing ideas. Jeff had an idea he had to stick with. Unfortunately, none of us could live with his vision so Jeff departed. Feral finds itself in a precarious situation: No front man. We searched and auditioned, placed ads in the New Times and on-line. Despite our best efforts, we couldnt locate a vocalist that met our expectations. One rehearsal, James was fucking around with the P.A. and decided to spout some pissed off lyrics to one of the songs and surprised every body (including himself) with the sound.... We found a singer, and he had been there the whole time. After this revelation, we started booking shows. After our first few performances, Kevin and James had a clash of wills. Kevin raised hell about things he did not like making a few arguments that not everyone could agree upon. That caused a split in the band, we never really broke up; it was more like a six-month retreat. James went down a different path for some time, while Rob and Kurt continued to write. After several months of contemplation, they decided to ask James to come back. Initially this was a part-time/interim arrangement as James was working on another project and everyone was unsure how a second run would work out. Shortly after he came back on board, Kevin disappeared with no word. We worried about him but could not find him for a month. It turns out he ran into some trouble in his personal life that was out of his control and had to part ways with us. During this time James parted ways with his other band and rejoined Feral full time. Unfortunately we were down, once again, one piece of the puzzle. Another search and in steps Steve to provide us with a badass beat! After a few more shows and expanding on our song writing directions, we decided James' vocal skills were a bit too one-dimensional. For Feral to be great, we required a vocalist who had range. We searched for some time, had a few auditions, and lost Kurt in the process. In steps Marco; Dynamic, chaotic and charismatic, he is ready to roll. As of March 20th, 2003 FERAL has completed a studio demo. Ryan Matteson was the engineer, and also recorded and mixed all the tracks we performed. This recording, done in Studio "B" at the Conservatory of Recording Arts and Science, will be instrumental in setting up gigs. Travis caught hours of footage from the sessions, which will be used to enhance our CD. On later copies, there will be video shorts included; we should have some of these posted to the web site as well. Richard is now the sole guitarist for Feral. Rob, due to family obligations and school schedules, left the band in February of 2004. Feral is once again evolving, and will stay strong. Again, "Stay Tuned for further developments, we have not even slowed down!"
Have you performed live in front of an audience? Any special memories?
Yes, we play local clubs and festivals. Anywhere heavy music is welcome! The Halloween show in 2003 was a great experience all round, at the Cajun House.
