This is the place that Felony Davis goes to when he writes music. The singer/songwriter best known as the front man for the Chicago-based Public Announcement, says "The majority of the songs that I write are based on situations that I've gone through and that helps me write them. I don't really have to think. It just comes out. And every time I sing it I never get bored with it because I went through it. It entertains people. They feel the energy."
On his solo cd, Just Me, Feloney explores the many sides of love and relationships. "I grew up with my mom and dad and that's pretty much what I've seen all my life. They went through their ups and downs but they've been together. In terms of relationships, where we are in terms of the world, I think that's really needed -- something that celebrates relationships instead of tearing them apart."
On songs like the single "I Found Love" and album tracks "Gonna Be", "What's A Man To Do" and "Let It Go," it's clear that Feloney has experienced the highs and lows of love and he conveys his messages in a clear, heartfelt manner that almost anyone can relate to.
One of his favorites on Just Me is the woeful "I Didn't Know," which tells the story of a man whose girlfriend dies after an extended illness. "The song is about how you can see a person everyday and not know that they're ill. A lot of times people come around you and they're not feeling well but they pretend that they are and the next thing you know, they're gone. That's what happened to my sister that passed. She could sing and dance well. She was a star to me and she was always encouraging me so this song is kind of like my tribute to her."
Another Feloney favorite, "Gonna Be," finds the talented singer/songwriter blowing old school style over a lilting track. "That song is simple," he explains, "but I just like vocally how I came off on it. It took me a little while to kinda come up with the concept but I did and I like it.
