UK's premiere R&B boy group, FDM (formally known as Fun*dmental 03) have undeniably proven themselves to be one of the most promising R&B groups to emerge from the UK this side of the millenium.
Band/artist history
Combining the artistic influence of performance veterans such as Usher and Michael Jackson, the poised R&B showmen known as FDM have proven themselves to be much more than just another boy group clone with their considerably breath-taking onstage performance and adept song writing talents. With a brotherly bond built upon a foundation of friendship and their mutual love for great music and performing, the three former-performing arts students (Varren Wade, Jermaine Riley and Kyle Lettman) found each other while dancing at a rehearsal studio in London. In the summer of 2003, with encouragement from friends and family, the trio formed a musical partnership. The boys soon embarked on a year crammed with show after show, on tour after tour, making their UK fan-base sky-rocket by the thousands, all the while being managed by UK Gospel luminary, David Wade. Upon winning the annual London-based, UK Unsigned talent competition in July 2004, under the name Fun*dmental, the trio had convinced the sought-after video producer and partner/managing director of daWorks Records, Jazz Black, that they were his new find. Months later, the boys signed their first recording deal with the Norwegian independant, daWorks Records and added the '03' to their name, in honour of the year they were united. In 2005, they had a busy year opening for artists such as Nelly, Bobby Valentino, Pretty Ricky, Kanye West, Fabolous, Ray J, Montell Jordan, Horace Brown, Lemar, Javine, Girls Aloud and more. Today, as both the label's and the UK's premiere R&B "boy band", they are ultimately a team of singers, dancers, song writers and choreographers, with an overly in-your-face energy, sound and image that places them amongst the freshest batch of today's UK talent. "We're a product of the most 'fundamental' R&B entertainers who came before us, we've studied the best," states Jermaine. "So I want what we do to be necessary, so we can influence future artists and those who love R&B can benefit from us." Come 2006, thousands of fans witnessed the Baby-V, Jermaine and Kyle open for the legendary Jodeci, veteran R&B crooner Donell Jones, global hip-hop icon Missy Elliott, and the UK's multi-platinum Sugababes (adding to the ever-lengthening A-list of celebrity shows). The boys had assumed the summer's heat was winding down towards the end of August '06, after surviving all their hard work and an unrelenting tour schedule. However, they then recieved a prestigious MOBO Award nomination for "Best UK Newcomer" as Fun*dmental 03. As the proud owners of a high-octane stage show and a repertoire filled with memorable songs, sultry R&B vocals and pioneering choreography, the newly-dubbed FDM continue to show outstanding promise and all the fundamental elements to grant them longevity and inevitable superstardom. After all, this is just the beginning.
Have you performed in front of an audience?
Yep, but no instruments just yet. We combine singing and dancing to create our live stage performances. Performing live is the truest representation of how talented we are as a group.
