Fastlane
A hard rock band from southern PA mixing equal parts Stone Temple Pilots and The Cars.
Band/artist history
We were three dudes who thought rock n' roll needed it's edge back and we were just the crazy fuckers to do it. We got together kind of innately, nothing being overtly planned, things just happening. Brandon always knew he wanted to be a musician, he and Mookie figured they might as well team up.
Despite their very different musical tastes (Brandon of the old hard rock school (Van Halen, Guns n' Roses, Alice in Chains, Stone Temple Pilots, Motley Crue) and Mookie of the seminal punk rock (Bad Religion, The Ramones, Sex Pistols) they somehow came together when it came to the music they would play as a group.
They enlisted the help of long time schoolmate Mike Eyer to get on drums. They practiced and practiced at Mike's house. "Mike used to be the most fervent of us all, but something changed..." the others recall. "He just wasn't the same when we moved our practice space. Hell he wasn't the same after we played our first show, a very nervous birthday party affair with many friends and family members anxiously watching." Nothing could take them down.
Except infighting. Complications soon arose between the others and Mike. His constant truancy, flippant attitude, and lack of technical skill was severely catching up to them. Only months before Mike had been lightyears ahead of Mookie a new guitar player and Brandon a wet behind the ears songwriter.
From this point on Mike did nothing but let them down. He bailed on them when they were about to start playing out. He came back for a short time. Brandon had been having some severe emotional problems at this point. A week of recording had been booked at a studio in North Carolina. Brandon had suffered from a drug overdose the week before they were scheduled to leave, and when he got out of the hospital Mike had made other plans. His friend and band brother had been close to death and he had made other plans.
This was it. Even though they would take him back once more and record a demo at a home studio, things would not be the same. They played some shows in support of their new record but the happiness was short lived. A large scale argument with Mike would forever sever them.
In the wake of losing who was once a friend and bandmate, the 2 realized they would further themselves without a drummer than with Mike. Brandon and Mookie decided to strip their songs down to do them acoustically until they find a drummer (who are a rare find in PA).
Through thick and thin, it's the music and friendship of the only two people who ever really were Fastlane that endures. Mookie and Brandon Stoner.
Have you performed in front of an audience?
We love playing live but don't get the opportunity to do it as often as we'd like b/c of our bad luck with drummers and the rednecks that aren't acceptable of anything that isn't country.
