Extra Blue Kind melds pop sensibilities and unadulterated energy with the right amount of frenetic artistry to create a unique and accessible sound.
Band/artist history
In the past three years, Indianapolis music--long considered dead and buried--has seen a revival of original, diverse, and independent music. The scene garners the attention of media outlets such as National Public Radio and draws major label representatives from both coasts. It’s impossible to discuss the development of the Indianapolis scene without talking about Extra Blue Kind. They are: Characteristically shy and introspective front man P. David Handy, once uncharacteristically bared his, er assets, and his opinion of a radio cover band who brought in a record crowd to one of his favorite local haunts. Live-wire guitarist David Barajas, who got EBK bounced from Robert’s Stadium in Evansville, IN after their opening set for Creed and Default. Drummer Randee Eimer, who fears the band’s imminent expansion from small-town darling to a regional presence, due to his crippling anxiety about relieving himself in foreign toilets. Bassist Squirt, dubbed “the fuzzy Fred Durst,” who positively complicates the group’s sound rhythmically, and also serves as band security. Courted by sleazy L.A. managers after winning a monstrous radio conglomerate's battle of the bands prize package that included a spot on a bill featuring Stone Temple Pilots, Kid Rock, and Chevelle, a too-slick, dumbed-down studio creation and several months of regular rotation, the boys knew they were being groomed for the quick rise-and-fall A whirlwind year in the grips of some of the industry's sleaziest insiders made them come out swinging--resisting the quick fix and remaining true to what has gotten them this far: honest, balls-to-the-wall rock 'n roll and an unpredictable, live-wire stage show that continues to court new devotees to original, independent music. Extra Blue Kind's infectious melodies, described as both anxious and cerebral, shatters the notion that popular, accessible music has to be shallow, trivial or watered-down.
Have you performed in front of an audience?
Yes, EBK plays out quite a bit throughout the Midwest and is touring to the Southwest in February 2004
Your musical influences
Notable influences include the riff-based rock of Queens Of The Stone Age, the multi-faceted Dave Grohl, the lo-fi art rock of The Sea and Cake and the melodic flavor of 60s pop.
