With spare-backing tracks and emotional, wrenching vocal, Everybody Loves Irene (ELI) play music for times when ecstasy wears off and the tingle becomes a chill. It's a dance noir for those too world-weary to move. ELI was born in 2001. It all started with a band named Gooton, consisting Yudhi (Guitarist), Dimas (Bassist), Mulyadi (Drummer). All three grew to become friends in the same scene that popped up several britpop’s gigs, popular in Jakarta at that time. However, the band went without permanent vocalist. After some time, the boys met Irene, a girl with remarkable voice. Her voice trully made a break. All the boys loved it. Even more, everybody loves Irene! This in fact is the exact sentence that became the name of the band Everybody Loves Irene. She soon became the main icon of this band. ELI's music might sound like “seen as a really unhappy world". This would make them a shoe-gaze-pop touch band. Such dark ambience was started when they launched “Deepdied”, the song that made them connoted with groups of the same genre as Portishead, Loveage, Bjork, Emiliana Torrini, Tori Amos, Fiona Apple, etc. Their music quality got even more enriched when Windi (Keyboardist) joined the band. This is the last, perfect format for the band to produce new, great songs like “Hate Sunday”, “Try Try Try”, “Uncertainty & Anxiety”, and “Gravity Always Win”. In 2004, they decide to produce promo CD-r with photocopied sleeve independently. Their first musical journey in the mini Ep is called “Uncertainty & Anxiety” and “All the Sorrow in this World”. If you're making out at home or pining home alone, Everybody Loves Irene is the most appropriate one to leisure.
