SINISITER
Having been born and raised in the valleys of South Wales to parents of Indian descent, the journey of Flemish Mohamed to become the MC Sinister was far from an inevitable one.
Often feeling an outcast from a young age due to racial discrimination at a less tolerant time, he found answers and direction through Hip-Hop music. Though his piers tended to listen to Rock, Punk and Grunge music, it was Rap music that addressed the issues relevant to him.
From a young age he displayed a great affinity for music. A natural performer, he would sing and dance at whatever functions or parties that would present themselves before him. At the age of 12, he was first exposed to the music that would change his life and his perception of music dramatically. On hearing artists like N.W.A, Ice Cube, Dr. Dre, and subsequently other artists like the Notorious BIG, NAS, 2-Pac, Wu-Tang Clan and Mobb Deep, he knew immediately that Hip-Hop was his music of choice.
The young MC first participated in the art form at the age of 17, after finding a group of Black and Asian friends in a predominantly White school. All shared the same love for Hip-Hop. They collectively formed the group ‘Dark Knights of EV’ and immediately got to work with recording music using other artist’s beats. Although local reception to the group’s music was lukewarm at first, they were confident of its integrity and worked hard at developing their skills on the microphone.
Sinister left South Wales at the age of 18, and moved to Birmingham to attend University. It was here that he met with Lethal Lex. On hearing the production of people like the Neptunes, Dr. Dre and Swizz Beatz, Lex immediately got to work on creating his own Hip-Hop instrumentals for Sinister. Though the Dark Knights had many talented MCs, they never had a designated producer. On hearing Lex’s production the Welsh Rap Crew were blown away and now had the final piece to their puzzle. In a self-invested bedroom studio consisting of a P.C and a microphone, they immediately got to work and recorded a vast array of tracks.
Drawing from various musical styles and influences whilst fusing in their own unique flavour, the group tried to create their own innovative style of Hip-Hop.
Unmistakably standing out as the front man of the group, Sinister shows unparalleled diversity, seamlessly rapping on a multitude of topics, adopting any type of flow over a wide range of production styles. Fuelled by a desire to attain recognition and a dream of blowing up on the UK scene, he teamed up with Lethal Lex to record, compile and fine tune a mixtape of 15 tracks showcasing his talents. He shows no mercy on the mic.
