Eva
Eva: Five piece female fronted band based out of Long Island NY.
Tell me about your history? How did you get where you are now?
Based out of Long Island, New York, Eva was formed in 2003 by long time writing partners Rebekka Carol and Brian Lupo. Through the last few years performing acoustic at just about every venue on Long Island and completing two independent CD's, they decided to expand the aural sound scape they could bring to their audience. With the able abilities of Steve Goldstein on guitar, Chris Petchonka on bass guitar and Eric Rucker on drums, EvaÊ was born.
While being the vocalist, lyricist and acoustic guitarist, Rebekka has been inspired mainly by her experiences on the road as a young runaway. Playing since she was twelve years old and having been influenced by bands such as Pink Floyd, The Cranberries, Tori Amos and local heroes Dearly Departed, she still focuses on her originality with writing partner and acoustic/electric guitarist Brian Lupo.
Brian Lupo began playing guitar at the age of 12. Influenced by technical bands such as Dream Theatre and Tool, he developed a solid understanding of the relationship between song and style. He plays in the perfect way to propel the song while never stepping on the delicate lyrics of vocalist Rebekka Carol. He has played in numerous bands throughout the New York area, and is known as a solid player and consummate live performer.
Chris Petchonka has been playing bass since the age of thirteen and guitar since the age of fifteen. While his first love is playing guitar he jumped at the chance to play bass for Eva and has incorporated his various influences into his playing. Being very open minded with music and having played in various hardcore bands in the past, has enabled him to explore different styles and emotions of playing. Artists ranging from Dillinger Escape Plan, The Used and Tori Amos, to Cradle of Filth, Eminem and Esthero show his love of variety.
Described as a "sensually aggressive" guitarist, hizEd, otherwise known as Steve Goldstein, creates a lurid soundscape sending conflicting emotions spiraling down a path of haunting textures and precise rhythmic timing. It's a love/hate relationship of melody and rhythm that makes his playing so unique. By listening to musicians such as James Brown, Stevie Wonder, and Metallica, hizEd learned that rhythm playing is just as important as any other element in a piece of music. The eclectic and diverse group of funk and metal influences such as Faith No More, Fishbone, and the Chili Peppers has to this day, helped shape hizEd's powerful sound. In his previous bands hizEd has shared the stage with such acts as The Mighty Mighty Bosstones, Corey Glover from Living Colour, Antigone Rising and Black 47.
Eric RuckerÕs father William, a prominent touring musician during the 80Õs, put drumsticks in EricÕs hands at the age of 2. At the age of 8 he was playing Rush albums note for note, as well as studying the complexities of jazz rhythm. His understanding of complex time signatures and polyrhythms has made him a sought after commodity on the NY scene. This Long Island Native has influences as diverse as The Dillinger Escape Plan and Coheed and Cambria. Eric adds a unique energy to the songwriting and powerful presence of EVA.
Now finishing up their first CD, Eva captivates their audience with honest and creative emotional music. Having shared the stage with such bands as Sponge & David Johansen (a.k.a. Buster Poindexter), they are currently engaged in an east coast tour.Check out the music page to sample some tunes off their upcoming project ÒSurfacing from silenceÓ and the shows page to find out when Eva is coming to your city.
