Ether was first known as Lovable Frog (a velvety air freshener). Between 1986 and 1993 they wrote and recorded 25 songs, and performed relentlessly in San Francisco and Los Angeles.
Amelia Fairweather sang all vocals and Barry Greenhut played most of the instruments. At times the band also included Malcolm Bertoni, Jan Whittington, and John Mader on drums; Kevin O'Neal and Alan Whitman on bass; and Nick Brophy on guitar.
Many of the recordings were self-produced, but others were more ably handled by Gibbs Chapman, Jim Dean & Karl Derfler.
The band was managed by long-suffering and generous folks including Michael Leshay, Sandra Austin Becky, and David Cremin.
Their executive producers were David Cremin and Brian Brinkerhoff (for Vis-a-Vis Entertainment and Indivision Records), Jamie Cohen (for Private Records), and John Coon (for Sonet).
