Erika Monique
Funky Soul is the only way to describe this artist; a multi-instrumentalist, lyrist and composer; a musician who believes in the true art of music, which is to convey thoughts, expressions and emotions; to move the listener beyond his reality.
Tell me about your history? How did you get where you are now?
Basically, I've been a musician for almost thirty years and have been writing for most of it. I play piano, saxophones, recorder, and bass, and I'm currently working adding percussion and guitar to the list. I've written countless number of songs, the most recent in rotation on KNLE 88.1 FM in Austin, Texas. Currently, I am writing and performing with a band but continue to find the need to express myself in a more intimate manner. My solo projects exist to express what I feel and want to communicate through song.
Have you performed live in front of an audience? Any special memories?
I play live with a band and enjoy it very much. Special moments are when the music is reaching its natural climax and the audience are enjoying the ride.
Your musical influences
My musical influences are great; Prince, Stevie Wonder, Michael Jackson, Fleetwood Mac, Sting, John Mayer, Dave Matthews, Sade, Alicia Keys, John Legend, Jill Scott, Erykah Badu, Frankie Beverly and Maze, India Arie, Luther Vandross, U2.
What equipment do you use?
Yamaha Saxophone, Yamaha S30 Keyboard, Fender Bass. Sennheiser mic, Nemesis Bass Amp, Mackie Onyx Mixer.
Anything else?
All that I am, do, accomplish or gain is because of my Savior, Jesus Christ. To Him be the Glory!
