Emerson Fetus
Well, I play some rock music with some people sometimes. I'm in a band called Edwin's Parallel Universe, but we've always struggled to get our shit together completely. Those guys are cool, but I think I have different influences than them to a degree. I decided to start this Emerson Fetus project a little after I got into Animal Collective and got myself a copy of the Reason. So far it's basically all electronic, although as I study more music theory, get more equipment and learn how to play the guitar, I'll get into doing more organic songwriting.
Have you performed live in front of an audience? Any special memories?
Nah... I could never afford a laptop.
Your musical influences
Procussively I've been inspired by Jaki Liebezeit of Can, Dosh, and West African drum circles. Electronically I've been inspired by Aphex Twin, Múm, Isan and Squarepusher. Vocally I've been inspired by Damo Sazuki of Can, and Why? from cLOUDDEAD. On other levels, I've been influenced by other Anticon artists, the good boys of Animal Collective, and Andy Broder of Fog.
What equipment do you use?
An old, bad PC and Reason. I plan to get a keyboard and MIDI device, but everything is automated presently. Other then that, I use a bad bass guitar from time to time as well as a small sized LP conga drum.
