Christian Rap

My artist name comes from my full name "Elmore McCoy Jr." But all of my family and friends still call me "Moe". I was born July 15, 1977 in Grand Rapids, Michigan. I was raised in church, and attending Bethel Abundant Life Pastor by Bishop William C. Abney. But at a young age I choose to do it the hard way. I moved out of my mom's house at 17 years old. I thought I was a man, but life showed me a thing or two. I didn't want to listen to my mom, but everything she told me was right. But yet I had to learn the hard way. Doing things my way led me further from God. I started rapping in 1989, I wouldn't curse in my raps at first, but after a while I just said forget it. I was becoming a thug, dabbling in drugs and alcohol. I almost lost my life, but God said not so. That day he sent a man of God to give me a word and I then accepted Jesus Christ in my life really. At this time I started to attend a church called Greater Harvest with Pastor Keith Flowers. He knew of my rapping and asked if I would do a song for the Lord. I thought what would it be like to do my rap for the Lord? I struggled with this for a few days and God said to me do the same thing you were doing but "Speak Life". Proverbs 18:21 says Death and Life are in the power of the tongue. So I did it and it felt good. Jesus is the Way the Truth and the Life. So that's why I named the album "Speak Life" cause that's what I do when I rap about Jesus. Speak Life is the Ministry God gave me to do. For so long I rapped about everything but God, and I spread my word and what I wanted to talk about. But the Lord has enlightened me, that what I was saying meant absolutely nothing. The kind of rap I was doing was not helping me or anyone else. This made me think. Jesus said in Matthew 6:19-21, Lay not up for yourselves treasures upon earth, where moth and rust doth corrupt, and where thieves break through and steal: But lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, were neither moth nor rust doth corrupt, and where thieves do not break through nor steal: For where your treasure is, there will your heart be also. So he lead me to change what I was saying and who I was talking about. Because the message make the difference. What are we saying? I know from then on I started to Speak Life. Because when I rap about Jesus I am speaking life. So now that I am rapping for Jesus I'm storing things up in heaven. Now I rap with a purpose and oh do it feel good.
