elegie
Norwegian progressive rock band. Musical style with elements of classical, folk, jazz, pop and rock music.
Elegie started out late 1997, originally for a one-off performance at the local finals in a "culture competition" for youth. Of course the good result of that competition led to the guys playing together on a permanent basis. With a musical style containing everything from classical, folk, pop, rock, jazz and progressive music, one can never really know what to expect from this band. 3 of the members are classical musicians (by education, at least), 1 is a jazz/funk-musician (yes, the bass player!), and the last one (the vocalist) a skilled amateur theatre actor.
Formed november 1997.
County final of Youth Culture Competition, March 1998.
4th place in the Norwegian Championship in Rock, May 1998.
Recorded 2 demo CD's 1998/1999 ("Elegy","Whatever").
Been playing live, rehearsing and such since then.
We certainly play live; that's the best part of music. We play mostly in our home country, Norway.
In their own way we find all moments to be special when we play.
Almost anything. As for the sound goes, we've been compared to the likes of Faith No More, Live, Pearl Jam. We'd say we sound like an odd mix between these before mentioned groups and others like Dave Matthews Band and Jethro Tull.
But that surely doesn't apply for all of our songs.
