ED Miles and the KBR Orchestra
I'm E.D. Miles and the KBR Orchestra is my brainchild. The KBR Orchestra combines factors of Classical, Pop, R&B, and Hip-hop music to flawlessly create ear-pleasing and melodic instrumentals that music listeners will love to hear.
Tell me about your history? How did you get where you are now?
I assembled the Kids in the Back Row Orchestra in 2006. I was inspired by Barry White's Love Unlimited Orchestra and wanted to have an orchestra of my own. So I got with my business manager D.B. Monroe and we recruited each member of the orchestra. I swear I felt like Nick Nolte in "Blue Chips" lol! At the time I was studying conducting and composition so the KBR was basically my guinea pig for a while. Some of our early stuff is decent, but pretty much on the cutting room floor. In late 2007, I was finished with my studies and decided I wanted to make an entire album of just instrumentals, not beats. I had a vision, and like the Love Unlimited Orchestra combined the music of the time (Disco) with classic instruments, I wanted to do the same with the music of THIS time.
I'd been making pop tracks for about 9 years at that point so I knew I could bring that flavor, but I was still relatively knew to composing and conducting. I pretty much said "F--- it" and just did my own thing. The result was the "LoveReal Album". It's a concept album that features loving, upbeat, uplifting music at the beginning (Love) and darker, slower, and moodier music at the end (Real).
Have you performed live in front of an audience? Any special memories?
We are strictly studio performers.
Your musical influences
Barry White and the Love Unlimited Orchestra. That's about it. I'm personally influenced by anyone who has ever made organized sound, but this orchestra has very minimal influences.
What equipment do you use?
We've got our equipment broken in to sections: strings, woodwinds, brass, and percussion. Also piano, saxophone, synthesizers, and a whole lot of magic!
Anything else?
We call it the orchestra, but it's really only 6 of us. Like I said, "a whole lot of magic" lol!
