Eben Music started as a dream of liberating the voice of Africa and has become so much more the past few years. The record company has become âœa way of lifeâ in many African countries. âœEben Showâ and âœNight of the Musicâ (featuring artists like Ja Rule, Akon and Missy Elliot) are some of the biggest African events with over 80 000 visitors per show, promoting our artists throughout the continent. Doing various projects around the world thought us which great opportunities lay ahead â“ and how we can benefit from those.
The new markets are open for music business and our experience in events and advertising in Africa makes us the best candidate to expand business there to a whole new level. As a record company, we will create benefit from developing and promoting World Music, as well as Western Music. As Universals business partner we will also promote Universals catalogue in Africa. We will do this through a mobile distribution network, as well as concerts and merchandising.
We are based in Miami, Libreville, and Paris:

We are a production team doing mostly R&B, Hiphop and Pop. Often we also work on all other kinds of music. Below is a short impression of the kind of things we did until now:
French artists with commercial release:

- Leslie (Pop/R&B, Sony/M6, 2 tracks, 2006)
- Mr R (French Rap, 2 tracks, 2006)
- Elijah (R&B, Polydor, Remix, 2005)
African artists with commercial release:
- Koba (African Rap, Eben Entertainment, whole album, 2006)
- Baponga (World Music, Eben Entertainment, multiple tracks for various projects, 2006/2007/2008)
Upcoming French releases:
- La Fouine (French Rap, Sony, 2008)
- Pearl (Pop/Folk, Sony, 2008)
- Tradunion (R&B, Warner, 2008)
International projects that we worked on:
- Janet Jackson (Remix of "Call On Me" ft. Nelly, Virgin, 2005)
- Master Phil (Lounge & Jazz with Flavio Boltro, Eric Legnini, Marcus Miller and others, Arrangement & Production Work, 2006)
- Jennifer McCrae (daughter of George, Rock/Pop, Composition & Production Work, 2007)
- Najim (Arabic Pop, EMI, Arrangement & Production Work, 2007)
- Baltik (Medieval music from around 1300, Composition & Production Work, 2008)
Besides that we worked on various otherwise diffused or unreleased projects in different styles of music in France and other European countries. We worked with French artists like MC Solaar, Diams, Anggun and Passi. We worked on TV projects like Star Academy, Idols and Popstar. We worked in Holland and Belgium with upcoming American artists. We also did film music and a couple of commercials. We love all music.
Our team exists of two people being my associate Yan (who does management and marketing) and me, Randy (and I do the music and studio stuff). We are music composers that mostly work tight with our artists. We write songs in about all genres, we write lyrics and we do our own recording and coaching. I come from Holland (Amsterdam) myself, which is often mentioned as a smaller version of America, meaning that we are very States-oriented. That's why we want to expand out market over there. Both Yan and me started out with nothing. I came with only a bag to France to succeed in music, where I met Yan two and a half years ago. Since then we signed with BMG/Universal in a co-publishing deal where we split the publishing part of our music 50-50 with Universal (BMG was taken over by Universal here). On the continent of Europe there's no 'work for hire' so a composer or writer always maintains 50 percent of their intellectual rights; that leaves us with 75% of our rights. The papers I included in this email are the first pages of our BMG (now Universal) contracts.
The problem we are often confronted with in France is a limited mind state in music. Both me and my associate grew up with Soul, American Pop and different kinds of black music. In France this market is relatively small and very conservative. The pop market does not cross over like in the States and most commercial releases are formatted to what used to be hot in 1995 (think of TLC and Wu-Tang). Even the artists often don't know what to do with something fresh and new. They often love our work but have no idea how to write on it because it's not in their culture.
It's great to have signed a deal and to have build a recoding studio just the way we wanted it. It's great to work with record companies in different countries and make music for a living. Especially knowing that we started out with NOTHING at all just two years ago. We thank god for that. But we need to expand. We have so many crazy musical ideas that we can work out with real musicians, great arrangements and innovative technical ideas. Those ideas are to be hits for great artists. Think of production teams like Timbaland, Brian Michael Coxx. That's where we want to go: organization, musicality, innovation and recognition. We want to treat modern day music like Bach treated the music of his time. But our environment is holding us down. So right now we are setting things up for ourselves that we can move to Miami and work where it matters with the people that understand our music.
Tomorrow I'll upload some fresh songs on our myspace. We did not touch our myspace for a year and a half (too much work), so next week we hope to have a more actual presentation too (we loved that "The Runners" myspace...). I'll keep you posted on the development.
Thank you so much for your time and effort, I hope that we can do great things together.
