Easily Amused

Like a half-starved kid in a candy store, Easily Amused is voraciously ripping through the Philadelphia music scene. With infectious songs, honest lyrics, and enough straight-up musical talent and ability to kill a horse, EA has become known for their energetic and unrelenting rock shows. Formed in an effort to appease a thirteen year old girl, EA's style and performance have much improved since that fateful birthday party. What has stayed the same, however, is their dedication, strong work ethic, and absolute devotion to having a good time. With a recent show playing for the Gin Blossoms, and having won a 22 band Lion Promotions battle of the bands at The Knitting Factory in Manhattan, as well as several other, smaller "battles," EA has the momentum pushing on their side. If you're looking for a pop rock band reminiscent of Weezer, Barenaked Ladies, and (insert any given pop punk band here), with a live show consisting of searing guitar solos, sick four-part harmonies, and 4 all around nice guys, Easily Amused is the way to go.
Tell me about your history? How did you get where you are now?
Kevin Laibson: Bass player and lead singer of the band, Kevin Laibson wishes he had a nickel for every time someone said "Man, with your voice, you should be in Rent." However, after 12 years of musical theater and opera accompanied by intense vocal training, Kevin's using his powerful voice for good and not evil in Easily Amused. Once forced from guitar to bass by bandmates Maxwell and G, he fell in love with the instrument and has played for such bands as The IOs, Hookahs and Hookers, The Lucas Project, and for the Off -Broadway production of Evening Clouds. Notoriously the geek of the band, Kevin's lyrics are honest, sometimes funny, and often laden with literary reference, but always sung with the die-hard conviction of a reluctant pop-punk. Greg Frey: Born in to a very musical family, Frey's talents can be traced back to the stirring rendition of the Can-Can, sung by his mother on his answering machine growing up. Greg, or simply "G," has mastered such instruments as the bass (upright and electric), cello, piano, drum kit, banjo, mandolin, and, of course, the guitar. His ability to sight-read and his blessing of perfect pitch make him an all-star player that EA is lucky to have. G is, without question, the brains behind the band, bringing a keen sense of musicality and a perfect ear to boot. Ryan Maxwell: Also born into a musical family, with his brother a professional percussionist/recording engineer, and his parents having met during an Off-Broadway production of "A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum," Maxwell started playing piano at 4 years old, trumpet at 10, and guitar at 12. Adding to that a few years of percussion training, Maxwell is always striving to achieve more than the next guy. Still just twenty years old, this kid's got nowhere to go but up. Maxwell and G have been playing in bands together since the pilgrims first set foot in this wonderful country, creating an almost brotherly on-stage and in-studio connection. Joe Burch: The most recent member of Easily Amused, Joe's flair for live performance lies far beyond his talent for the drums. While his powerful beats and impeccable timing certainly push the band out of obscurity, his charming and, well, outright hilarious onstage presence makes every audience fall immediately and deeply in love with him. Performing together almost daily at the New Actors Workshop, Joe and Kevin formed an instant bond that carries over from the theatrical to the musical, making a tight and strong rhythm section. With Joey B.'s passion for entertaining and beating his drums like they owed him money, he is a commanding element of Easily Amused.
