I've been a songwriter from the moment I picked up my first guitar. Over the years I've developed some skills on the keyboard as well which I use extensively in my home recording studio. I see myself more as a songwriter and session recorder than performer, though I do occassionally perform.
Although I've written conventional and traditional material for most of my life, I gave up on it several years ago, primarily because there was nothing I found inspiring. Then I let Jesus come into my life and the inspiration began flowing like a river once again. I believe this is because God has a new mission for me, and that is to reach out and minister, through my music, to those in dire need of his saving grace.
My audience is more likely to have tatoos and a motorcycle than a nice haircut and a minivan. This is for the folks who felt life rejected them from the beginning, so they have rejected life...but in doing so, they rejected the only thing in life that could save them from their misery. As one of the pastors from North Carolina's Freedom Riders stated to me, you can't ride free if you don't know what real freedom is, and only Jesus can give you that kind of freedom.
I don't think you have to own a bike to have a biker mindset and to relate to this music. This music is for anyone who has felt beaten by life. Those who have tried all the worldly avenues to try and fill the hole in their hearts, but have found nothing but more misery and pain. For the hopeless in search of hope. And for those that have found Jesus and desperately hold onto that precious gift because they know, better than anyone else, how miserable life can be without it.
Band/artist history
I spent many years in my early twenties performing full-time as a musician in bar bands and traveling around the United States. Mostly I played rock and top 40, but began playing country when I was in the military and stationed overseas. I briefly performed as a single using backing tracks several years ago doing classic rock. But I've written music my whole life and have tried recording it on my own throughout the years. Finally technology has become available to allow me to translate what's in my head to a distributable format.
Have you performed in front of an audience?
I rarely play live any more. I prefer to work in my studio and let my songs do the talking.
Your musical influences
The Beatles were my earliest influence, followed by the Four Seasons, James Taylor, Loggins and Messina, Kenny Loggins, Electric Light Orchestra, Emerson, Lake and Palmer, Eagles, James Gang, Joe Walsh, Elton John, and Toby Keith.
What equipment do you use?
I have very little in terms of actual music gear. I have a pretty beat-up cheap keyboard from Radio Shack, a Fender Telecaster, and a Takamini acoustic guitar. The real magic is in the recording studio where I use Cakewalk Sonar 8, M-Audio Fastrack Pro Audio Interface, Behringer Mixer, AKG Perception 220 microphone, and Roland powered near-field monitors. As far as soft-synths and plugins I use EZ-Drummer with Nashville extensions, Melodyne vocal plugin, Truepianos, and a collection of guitar amp simulators too numerous to mention.
