Dumb Blind Luck plays original Rock in the Tampa Bay Area. We have done a handful of gigs while working up our material. We have a self produced CD "What's The Deal" and we are hard at work on a second CD.Band/artist history
Origins: the 60's -The first of the band members to join forces were singer/songwriter Bob Forrest and guitarist Jim Neal. First meeting in high school in the late 60's in San Francisco, they later shared a flat in the infamous Haight-Ashbury district and jammed with other musical friends while finishing school, college and then working. Surrounded by the likes of the Grateful Dead, Janis Joplin, Santana, Steve Miller, the Quicksilver Messenger Service and a host of other late 60's early 70's groups appearing at the Fillmore , Winterland and the Avalon Ballroom, they absorbed and played all sorts and styles of music on their acoustic and electric guitars (also mandolin and sitar, to name a few experiments).
Jim attended Bill Graham's free "Learn from the Pros about the music business" seminars given at the Fillmore West in 1969 which included learning how to mix and engineer music at Bill's personal "state of the art" recording studios south of San Francisco. The students were even allowed to practice their "producer" and "engineer" skills on an unreleased Steve Miller track...
Scattered in the 70's & 80's - Jim married and moved away and Bob next met singer/pianist Cookie Leonard, also in San Francisco, in the mid 70's. No musical connection was made at that time but the die was cast. Jim returned to S.F. in 1979 and he and Bob reconnected and played on and off all through the 80's. Bob was the next to move away and ended up in Clearwater, FL and Jim settled in LA.
The group regroups- the 90s - In the mid 90's Bob met up with Cookie again in Clearwater. She wrote and sung her own songs and played both violin and keyboards. She and Bob started writing and playing together, trying out various other musicians to complete the group.
Introducing Dumb Blind Luck, 2002 - Jim ended up visiting Bob in Florida in 2000 and, while studying and working in Clearwater, began to sit in with the new band, reestablishing his and Bob's old musical connection after 10 years (didn't seem like any time had passed at all...)
Bob and Cookie found Mike Alkema to play trumpet (and to add some class to the band) and, still being without a bass player, he agreed to pick up the instrument and learn to play. And learn he did, becoming a very steady part of the rhythm section, in addition to his already trademark solo horn.
Tony Lago also sat in at first and then became the band's steady drummer (that's a pun) and Dumb Blind Luck began to play in earnest, performing live and then settling down to record their original tunes to digital 16 track. You can hear all the music on our debut CD, "What's The Deal?"
Since the CD was recorded, Jim has been spending most of his time in California and has become an in absentia member. Cindy Lorty has become a part time player adding flute and percussion to a few songs. It goes to show, change happens.Have you performed in front of an audience?We have played at a few parties and clubs. We have also played a number of Benefit shows.

Jim- Heavily modded Squier Strat, Johnson Amp.
Cindy- Armstrong Flute.Anything else?
Everyone tells Bob he sounds like Dylan and it drives him nuts.
