We are Drunk Uncle Chuck, an Independent Band from SE Indiana, and we are here to change the face of music. We write all of our own songs, and achieve a unique sound, to which many people cannot compare us to. Give us a chance and we'll let you hear some really great tunes.
Band/artist history
Two and a half years ago, the seeds of Drunk Uncle Chuck were sown when long time friends Chris and Joe decided to put together a few songs for a youth group coffee house, at this time, Chris played acoustic guitar and Joe sang, the first song ever made by the band was Chris Spoonfingers, inspired by Chris taping spoons on his hands and playing the song. The band at that time also had more of a name, Drunk Uncle Chuck and the Funk Tarts, though we're not sure who was Chuck and who the Funk Tarts were. The Funk Tarts part was eventually dropped. As time went by, Joe picked up the bass and the two of them continued on the youth group coffee house circuit, hitting a glass ceiling, and finally deciding to add a drummer to the band, Butch. At first, the band stuck to easy covers, since we weren't the greatest musicians then, playing songs like Louie, Louie and Blitzkrieg Bop, also perfecting Chris Spoonfingers and other orginals such as Why, Funky Song Dealy, and The Jesus Song. The band played their first concert in Chris's living room, New Year's Eve in 2002. It was crammed, it was hot, and it wasn't very good, but it was preparation for a big time gig at St. Louis School, to our biggest crowd ever of like thirty people. This gig was also pretty bad, as all of our equipment was pretty shotty at the time and we weren't very good musicians. After this show, we were stoked, but decided we again needed another member, someone who could play guitar, but also keyboards, this is where Alex enters in. Hired after hearing him sing some Blink 182 song, he became singer, guitarist and keyboardist for the band. Fueled by this new member, the band decided to record many songs in Butch's basement on his home computer, but many crowd favorites were born or perfected during this time, like Remix, a rap tune. After a time when the band was coming up with nothing new, we decided to go out and but some Nestea concentrate, what occured after this was a sugar induced high that ended up in a 13 minute long jam session, a song about giant cats, and an acoustic tune about Alex's lost dog. These were known as the Nestea Sessions. After the Nestea Sessions, tensions began to build in the band, and a dislike for Chris began to form, though the band still went on until Rockfest 2003, the first of it's kind here in our town. Putting on an excellent high energy show with tunes like I Wanna be Sedated and Remix, we got the crowd into it and ended up finishing in third place. After Rockfest the band disolved, Chris persuing a side project with some douchebag, and Joe, Alex and Butch remained together, until Joe left to persue a side project in a Progressive metal band, leaving Butch and Alex to form Apollo's Pimp Wagon. But don't fret, the tale of Drunk Uncle Chuck goes on. From Apollo's Pimp Wagon came a variety of songs that the re-formed Drunk Unlce Chuck Plays, such as Epic, Whatsitsface, and Hang 5 in the Cornfield. Drunk Uncle Chuck reformed in the fall of 2003, after summer break, and was it mighty. Everyone seemed to have progressed at a high level, giving the band a whole new unique sound. As the band's sound developed, we decided to go in and record a few of our songs, little did we know, our first producer was terrible. Ken screwed us over bad and led us to waste 500 dollars on really crappy recording, but we got over it, and made more new songs. In the spring of 2004 the band again competed in Rockfest, this time securing a fourth place posistion, four points behind first place(it was a very close battle). The band did not let this get them down, and continued to progress further and played a show at our High School, playing a two and a half hour set, the longest and best concert we ever put on, showing off many of our new tunes and earning the band a cool 150 dollars we were going to use towards paintball equipment, but we decided not to spend it quite yet, leaving it in the band treasury, until just recently, when we dedcided to go record with a guy named Matt, from which these songs you'll be hearing us on. The quality is very good and we hope you'll enjoy them.
Have you performed in front of an audience?
Occasionally we play live, and we sound better live than we do on these recordings. We play mostly at school dances and junk like that since we're allin high school yet and don't really have time to go touring around.
Your musical influences
We are influenced by many bands, from Led Zeppelin, to Motorhead, to the Ventures, to Grandaddy, to Muse, to many other bands. We are somewhat of a melting pot of many different bands all in one, combined to give us a unique sound.
What equipment do you use?
Chris- Alvarez Tele knockoff, a Fender Hot Rod DeVille amp. Alex- Fender Cyclone, usually runs the guitar through the thirty year old PA system. Joe-Fender V Jazz Bass, Ibanez amp(uses old Peavey cab for live shows) Butch- Pulse Drum set, upgraded with Evan's heads, and a mix of Zildjian, Sabian and Wuhan cymbals
