Tell me about your history? How did you get where you are now?
Doctor : is a term that refers to someone who has attained a high degree of knowledge and excellency in his or her relevant field of study. Doctor Magobo is one man who can be consulted for the treatment of all musical illnesses.
Magobo : comes from the Shona word kugobora which means to exhume or dig out up to the roots, and it is through music that Dr magobo wishes to get rid of all societal ills leaving no stone unturned up to the source of the trouble. Cultural erosion is very much a cause of bad blood in people's lifestyles, and the Doctor feels that to go against this one should understand the proverb that a bird in the hand is worth two in the bush. The aforementioned, has been his guiding stance which motivates him to write lyrics directed at the culturally eroded lifestyles of youths telling them that there is no clear positive end to these actions than mere trouble. Robbing will lead to imprisonment, prostitution to death, laziness to having a red eye towards people's things which will later lead to thieving. The youths through the Doctor's lyrics are urged to trim their coats according to their cloth. The Doctor's music largely consists of lyrics directed at anyone who might be involved in self injurious activities , and encourages them to engage in worthy alternative behaviours.
Music was in his blood veins at birth since his father always attracted people to his house everytime he played the mbira after supper , this was because he plucked the keys with skill that is beyond learning experience. At school Willie's special blend of unique lyrics and a special voice made him second to none at Talent shows in and outside school. This saw the majority of teachers at his school lobbying for the introduction of music as a subject in the ghetto to give talented people like Doctor Magobo an opportunity to showcase their talents and develop them from an early stage .In the location where he lives everyone praises his talent and admires his music. He sings for people whenever he feels it necessary, ie at funerals, for friends enjoying beer , lovebonds taking a walk, youths high because of dangerous substances. His lyrics on hunger can be food to a hungry person in the form of hope , on drunkenness the lyrics will leave the drunkard happy but at the end conscious of the negative effects of alcohol abuse .He sings for all occasions, sad, happy and holy. Just like his father the Dr plucks the mbira keys much to achievement of a soothing sensation in rhythm.
Dr Magobo's debut perfomance was at Uptown Nite Club during the launch of an urban grooves album by a local artist. However, the event turned out unfair for the artist who was launching because the crowds roared for "More Doctor" than more of the main artist. His forthcoming album will definitely produce shock waves to the radio stations and all people with malfunctioning radios will call the repair guys twice in a minute after having heard any of Doctor Magobo's songs elsewhere. Housekeeping will become an enjoyable task only if the housekeeper is armed with the only weapon against boredom , which happens to be Doctor Magobo's album.The leaving of his CD at arm's length will become a crime to interest.He is more than versatile- give him any beat/rhythm and he will do justice to it, and leave the producer of the rhythm surprised at what he never thought would happen to the rhythm.
