Wolverhampton based four piece band that play a groove based form of sludgy hardcore metal (tagged as death n' roll by some)
Band/artist history
In early 2003 - disgruntled member of extreme metal band 'optophobia' Christan Cherrington laid down his bass. With a clear vision in his head of starting a new heavier but less stressful band, he decided to take up the guitar. After a few months practise, feeling confident he cut it - he asked friend Paul Morgan if he'd be willing to take on the vocal duties. Paul gladly agreeing, as he too was not entirely happy with his current band situation. After trying out assorted drummers, one Tim Rhodes was recommended by a local practise room owner. After recently departing from his band 'bone freek' he was eager to pound the skins again- after careful deliberation they decided he was the one to take on the task. The three began to piece together some songs at the beat foundry studios in wolverhampton, continually looking for a bassist and not having any success in finding one to fit the bill. A few months later- after a boozy argument at a nearby bar, Chris decided to ask the guy in the corner of the room (he was wearing a carcass t-shirt) if he knew of anyone. By some strange stroke of luck, Jason Barber played bass himself.. A bond was formed straight away (a mixture of enthusiasm and stupid amounts of alcohol helped) Playing with this line up and delighting audiences with their blend of rock n roll fused death(ish) metal over the west midlands for nigh on a year. A good run by all accounts until half way through 2004 problems arose in the dwtd camp. Unfortunately disagreements started to occur between members (mainly personal ones which we wont go into) Bassist Jason and drummer Tim left... things were up in the air for a bit shall we say. However remaining members Chris and Paul weren't gonna let this baby die so easily after the hard work they had put in. Straight away they recruited friend Richard Austin from alchemy to take over bass duties and he fitted in effortlessly. However they were still left with the problem of no drummer. After toying around the ideas of getting a drum machine and getting increasingly annoyed with the crappy drummers that they tried out... they finally found salvation in original drummer Tim Rhodes rejoining. As you may know...they reeled in influences from a massive range of extreme music, the likes of iron monkey, cannibal corpse, pantera, ac/dc and a hardcore vocal inspiration DRINK WITH THE DEAD were (re) born. Combining an uncompromising heaviness and a rock n roll attitude they create a cacophony of down tuned riffs, filthy bass hooks, decimating blast beats and demented vocals. They are set to take the extreme metal world by storm!! With a new found energy in the band y'all better watch your backs... they may be coming to a town near you.
Have you performed in front of an audience?
Yes we try and play live as much as possible... all the practise seems to come together on stage (well most of the time) We have done numerous local gigs and are venturing further a field in the new year.
Your musical influences
Pantera, napalm death, cannibal corpse, entombed, ac/dc, clutch, black sabbath, iron monkey.
What equipment do you use?
I'll just big up marshall and jackson... give us some free stuff haha.
Anything else?
Final words... live by the beer, die by the beer. Stay drunk, stay metal!!
