Band/artist history
Downfall Society was formed out of the remnants of many failed bands, projects, and musical experiments that never seemed to work out. The original Downfall Society was started in mid 2003 with Austin and Sean on guitar and Chris on drums. The band was not together for too long before Sean left to pursue other musical interests. Despite this setback, Chris and Austin continued playing together. In early 2004, Chris started a band with a guitarist he met named Joe. The two friends called the band PIG, but were lost without a bassist. Chris recruited his friend Pete to play bass, and the band wrote a couple of tunes before dying off by the time summer rolled around. Chris continued playing with Austin, but Pete left to continue a project he had been working on with various drummers and fellow guitarist Dominic. The band was called The J.E. Conspiracy and was together until June of 2004 when creative differences caused Pete to leave the band. Around this time, Pete began playing with Austin in a band called Cacophany. With Austin on guitar and Pete on drums, the band wrote few songs and was disbanded because of a dispute between Austin and Pete. By the time Cacophany was dead in late 2004, Pete had started up The J.E. Conspiracy again under the name East Bay Mud with guitarist Dominic on bass and original drummer Connor. The band continued playing off and on while Austin and Chris remained close, jamming together occasionally. Pete also started a project with Joe from PIG, which never really took off and consisted of various jams and the occasional structured song. By the summer of 2005 all of these projects had fallen apart and failed miserably, leaving Pete, Austin, and Chris doubtful...until Austin and Chris decided to invite Pete over to jam. The song they played was called "Wave Rider" and was the start of a whole new musical adventure. The band was called The Barking Kitties and consisted of Austin on guitar, Chris on drums, and Pete on bass. Unfortunately, it became apparent that the band was unmotivated and was going nowhere, causing Pete to decide to leave to start up East Bay Mud again under the name HIV. HIV continued until mid November of 2005. At this time Pete decided to recruit Chris to play drums in a band consisting of himself and the Reality Rejects bassist, Nickey Riot. Although Nick could never commit to the band due to his involvement in RR, Chris and Pete decided to continue playing together and looking for a bassist...which they would eventually find in the most unlikely of places. One evening, as Pete was watching Forrest Gump, he recieved a call from Austin, inviting him to play in a band with Austin on bass, himself on guitar, and Chris on drums. Pete agreed, but had low expectations because of the failure of the Barking Kitties. In December 2005, the band had their first practice. They played a song Pete had been working on called "Vitamin". It was obvious from that day, that these three men had a mission...to share their music with the world. After a few practices the band had decided on the name Downfall Society and had been offered their first show at Redhouse Studios. The band got a set together, consisting of songs by Pete and Austin, and performed for the first time. It was a hit, the band played three more shows at Redhouse before a dispute between management and Pete's side project Sudo forced Pete to leave. The band fell into an idle state, laying low and writing new material, which was performed at the Concord Pavillion Battle of the Bands in June of 2006. Although the band did not take home the prize, the show was a success, leading to great reviews and new performance opportunities. The band was on a rise when a dispute led to their disbandment by the beginning of July. Fortunately, the three settled their differences and got back together in early August after a month long hiatus. The band had new songs, a new outlook, and a newfound respect for eachother. After playing three more shows, the band decided to begin working on a demo CD to be released sometime in late 2006. With upcoming shows and a CD on the way, Downfall Society is on its rise in the Bay Area Music Scene.
