Doug Roberts

I'm a semi-retired musician who has been playing music since the 1960s. I have mostly played bass in the bands, but I also play guitar, mandolin & piano.
Tell me about your history? How did you get where you are now?
Rock bands in the 60s. Rock and country bands in the 70s. Country-rock and classic rock in the 80s. Spent most of the 90s in an oldies do-wop trio. Did classic rock in a dance band in the early 2000s. Rockabilly oldies with my upright bass in a '50s style trio 2010-1016 Playing in a duo on acoustic bass since 2018
Have you performed live in front of an audience? Any special memories?
These recordings were recorded at home on a Zoom 12-track digital recorder. On some songs I play all the instruments and sing all the vocal parts. Two of them are collaborations with friends. These home recordings are mostly for my own entertainment, and friends and family. I really have fun singing big "gang choruses" with a whole bunch of Dougs on vocal.
Your musical influences
Wide-ranging influences, from Elvis to today. British rock in the 60s, acoustic and jug bands, country-rock and southern rock, Zappa, Spike Jones, Mozart & Bach, Dan Hicks, Chet Atkins, Commander Cody, The Beatles, The Beach Boys, James Taylor, Leon Redbone.
What equipment do you use?
Telecaster Fender Precision Bass Martin acoustic guitar Gianinni 12-string acoustic guitar Ovation acoustic/electric bass guitar Kay stand-up bass 2 mandolins I self-record on a Zoom digital recorder.
Anything else?
Oh jeeze, now he's singing with himself! Nine Dougs a-singing!
