Band/artist history
Douglas Kay started playing acoustic gigs around Scotland in 1995 and has honed his skills in the coffee houses and bars of Australia, New Zealand, Canada, South Africa and Europe. His extended travels have given him a wide range of influences and experiences which inform his writing and have bolstered his performance skills.
His debut album, Of All The Towns To Sleep In, is home to an organic set of songs born of singer-songwriter craft and swaddled in an uplifting collection of sounds. From the loop-driven opener Moving Target to the melancholy guitar and vocal closer Year, the album represents a clear step forward in Kay's musical journey. Songs from the album have received airplay on BBC Radio Scotland, London station Xfm (where Moving Target won the listener vote after featuring on the show X-Posure) and Australia's Central FM. The album also led to Kay's first Australian TV appearance in spring 2004.
April 2005 saw Douglas return to the studio to begin recording his new album with bassist Alex Hunter and drummer Paul Gilbody. May then saw the three play at the prestigious T Break showcase gigs at Edinburghs Liquid Room, having been selected from over 750 bands to appear at the shows.
Have you performed in front of an audience?
I play regularly around the UK and, every year or two, tour overseas doing solo acoustic shows as well as gigs with my bassist and drummer. Thankfully the good shows outweigh the bad.
Your musical influences
Huge range of stuff, although my own music is pretty much acoustic based. I like to plug in the electric and go wild now and then though too!

Hi! Moving Target sounds awesome, I was browsing around as Im about to add an acoustic rock track to our account as well - Im glad that I did, and accordingly found you. Ill have to keep popping back to see what your doing. Cheers from Dunedin, New Zealand!
FAIR WARNING TO ALL THAT IS BEING APPROACHED BY STATUE RECORDS!!!!!!!this is a recent email sent to statue records...
don't waste your time with these crack-heads!!!!!!!
HEllo Geoff,
well its been over a year signed with your label, and just curious what the $100 was for. I mean, come on, "available now" with no links to purchase the cd. and don't blame it on the website change, cause I have been keeping an eye on both and nothing. our cd isn't even listed on the new site. I know building websites takes some time. but since we have signed with you. I have built numerous sites to promote our music. it takes about a total of 20 minutes at the most to make a webpage and place a link.
since you are the one to contact me and offered me to sign. I think it is up to YOU to PERSONALLY see that our cd has a link to purchase and our name listed in the artist roster.
like I've told you numerous times before, I went through alot of sh*** to be able to come up with the money to get "listed"
Mr Kay
Love the song "Movong Target".
Very....Travis...
cheers
