Dominguez Popstar
Remember Dominguez?
The Latin sensation that burst into the charts in 1989 with the hit single 'Cheer me up Sunshine'? The Actor who broke all of our hearts as Dr. Juan Doritos in the soap 'El Salvador' in 1992? The pin-up whose stunning looks graced our bedroom walls when we were a teenager?
Tell me about your history? How did you get where you are now?
Dominguez, the spoof Latin pop and soap star was created 5 years ago as a private joke. Since then, the character has gone from strength to strength entertaining and wooing crowds with our energy, realistic caricatures, humor and catchy, silly Latin songs.
Dominguez Popstar is made up of Dominguez, a former Latin pop and soap star; Reno Da Silva, his non speaking, dead-pan, weapon loving Columbian Bodyguard and Sebastian, Dominguez’s camp, bongo playing nephew.
We invite people into the Dominguez world where they play along with the spoof that Dominguez is REAL. This creates a real feel good aspect of the show with the audiences often joining in on our crazy antics and songs. We go to the heart of Latin culture with a bit of tongue and cheek rather than the obvious clichéd perception of a Latin singer.
Our show ‘An audience with Dominguez’ which was performed at this years Edinburgh festival went down very well amongst the public, which included many Europeans and Americans. The American especially enjoyed the show as a lot of our content related to them. One American gentleman in particular runs a cabaret club in New York and invited us to perform when we are next in the U.S!
Have you performed live in front of an audience? Any special memories?
Yes, on the comedy circuit. Most recently at the Edinburgh Festival.
