Dog Unit
Here are some demo songs as examples of the music I have been recording. I have recorded 4 albums across the last 3 years or so. These songs are the tip of the iceberg and there is loads more material where this came from.
This is NOT supposed to be KOL or Muse or whoever the latest great band is. It is intended to be an honest attempt to do what comes naturally and to be original and interesting. I cant judge if I have succeeded or not.
The styles I write seem to be very varied from rock through to metal and synth-pop to Jazz. I would like to re-create all of this live. However, I am equally interested in making some videos for YouTube.
The recording quality is not great. I have done my best in my bedroom studio but I dont have the gear, skills or experience to make professional sounding recordings. So listen with good headphones. The songs have not been professionally mixed or mastered and so will sound better or worse on different systems. Some imagination is required when listening to hear what the finished product could sound like, recorded or live, from the demo.
First up, 5 songs from the latest album:
Club Girl is an up tempo rock song with a house mid section.
Bitch School is another up-tempo punky pop song with a jazzy chord progression.
You & I is a dark piano and voice ballad with a section with drum backing. No bass.
Dumped by Text is a highly experimental song with an electronic grime (?) style backing, a down tuned death metal guitar playing reggae accents.
Man Up is a clearly led zep influenced hard rock/blues song.
Then a few songs from the previous albums:
Photograph of You is an 80s style pop-rock song.
Nutter is a sleazy metal track with a big chorus. This is actually played live regularly by a friends band, and goes down very well.
Ophelia in the Water is a simple ballad for harp and voice with arty lyrics. This is one of my favourite songs from my catalogue. The vocal recording is terrible and will be re-done at some point with my new microphone.
Cat got your Tongue is a ritual song with a synth-pop backing (kind of). Included to give a flavour of the more extreme material I would like to play live.
Simple is a Jazz-ballad. Kindly mixed and mastered by someone who knows what they are doing, so is sonically much better that the other tracks.
