My name is Nate, and I'm from a mixed musical background. I was classically trained on the piano and quickly became interested in every form of music I could get my hands on. I especially love abstract, slick jazz. I won statewide competitions in classical piano, started composing for choirs and ensembles, and do hip-hop production. Hip-hop and folk, I think, have a lot in common with each other. This kind of music is the only way to really express certain things, like the specifics of society or how you see the world. It's literature and music at the same time. That is, if it's done right (rap and hip-hop have bad connotations because of the manufactured popularity of a few disgusting individuals in record industry towers). I'm also a big hater of our current politics, religion, and mass conformity, and true hip-hop has always been a movement against that BS. In 2002-2003 I started rapping with my cousin Josh Wyatt, aka Kurzed, and WeaponX (our boy Tonio). We were producing as Dheeper Meaning & WeaponX Presents, but we were going in different directions and ended up settling for collaborating as separate artists. Now I'm making home studio music and trying to collaborate with as many creative musicians as possible. My goal is to be in a band similar to the Roots, but with more instruments and a very wide variety of styles - from hip-hop to jazz to salsa to folk to rock to all things "world." So if you're a good musician, I need somebody to play with. I'll probably want to collab, so if you're interested, by all means let me know.
Have you performed in front of an audience?
I have played live in several different settings: Classical, jazz, jam, and hip-hop.
What I like best is jamming, grooving out and pouring your soul into it before you know how the rest of it is going to go. That to me is pure undistilled and unprocessed music. =P
I really love hip hop. The hip hop culture in Cleveland is actually really good, at least the underground portion of it. There are lots of good bands here, but as everyone recognizes here, there is no unity... that's a long story. Anyway, I loved every time I got to rap in front of people. I liked seeing 1Mind come to our show on Friday the 13th.
Classical piano is great to play for people, but I'm not a great sightreader, so more classical-style stuff I have trouble collaborating with people on. But I'd love to try and hone my skills. =)
Your musical influences
Anything innovative and with talent. Conscious or at least lyrical hip-hop is a big influence, as well as any other form of music that is musical. Favorite groups include The Gorillaz, Talib Kweli, Zion I, Dove Ink, Iyan Anomolie, Tupac, Eminem, Nas, Spittin Image, The Roots, Tribe Called Quest, Wu-Tang, Holger Czukay, Frank Zappa, Pink Floyd, Phish, etc.
What equipment do you use?
ACID 6.0 and a cheap Yamaha keyboard. Also, vocals are recorded at Dheeper Meaning's studio courtesy of Kurzed.
Anything else?
Yeah. Anybody these days can create 'music.' All you have to have is some drag-and-drop program. This definitely ups the standard for what means "quality." Music is consciousness, right-brained, living stuff. It's not drag-and-drop formula. I HATE music that follows the same-old formulas. Bling bling rap, commercial country and rock, etc. are an embarassment to humanity and especially to music.
"There are precious few who see with their own eyes and feel with their own heart."
And, to quote Iyan Anomolie,
"Pay attention to the path you follow."

Man I don't know about all that... u ever listen to Kool Kieth/Dr Octagon? VS is esoteric and poetic and definitely abstract... but that doesn't make him any less profound or his music any less hot... + everybody can use some work; so can you for sure, and that's not really an insult. The moment you think you've arrived you are done, u feel?
And it doesn't make yours any worse either... it's just two different levels of hip hop, both meaningful in their own way... u guys are both two smart and talented motherfu¢kers... I don't see the reason for the go-round. Who started this bullsh!t anyway?
Well anyway, keep doin your thang my dude... it's hot...
increase the peace!!!
