DL Free
Serbia radio plays FAITHFFUL and loves it! "Big Hit!" College radio in the NW and DC/Richmond report requests. And da bookman of Tacoma writes, "DL Free plays a lot more than just the blues. The lyrics, however, was definitely written by someone who went through a lot of heartache and failure, but at times it's the music that pulls him through, which is what makes this album stand-out. In songs such as "Faithful", "68 South 17", and "Children's Children" it sounds like he's having a hell of a time playing the guitar and recording something that's quite outstanding."
Tell me about your history? How did you get where you are now?
DL FREE is a solo artist. His latest CD is called ON HALF MAST. available online at CD Baby. The song ON HALF MAST was written in late 2006. The lyrics were inspired by a mother's story of her concern for her sons. It is the only straight ahead blues track on the collection. FAITHFUL rocks out a standard blues chord progression. The song 68 SOUTH 17 is a blues rock song about a man's longing to get out of jail. The love songs on this album are especially touching beginning with the forlorn country blues of NEVER FORGOT HER which segues nicely into DOWN TO US/TALK ABOUT IT and concluding with IS OUR LOVE. Three songs show my rock reggae style in PERFECT MATCH BLACK, CHILDREN'S CHILDREN and AFTER THE BLAZE. I wrote AND MOVE UP around Christmas '97 in anticipation of the coming 21st century. It was interesting to follow AND MOVE UP with ON THE MOUNTAIN which begins and ends with a reading of the New Testament's Sermon on the Mount.
Your musical influences
Blues and roots reggae are strong influences. Artists that are definitely influential include Hendrix, Santana and Marley as well as Neil Young, and Zeppelin and Floyd. Listen to the new 2008 uploads like Aurora, Medication and others.
What equipment do you use?
Souler System Sound Studio equipment and instruments include: KORG D3200 Digital Recorder, KORG TR61 Workstation/Sampler,
Ibanez AE AEF37 Acoustic/Electric, Fender Stratocaster, Gibson Epiphone Sheraton II, Schecter C-4 Bass, and Rode NT-1A Microphone. This mic is truly incredible.
Anything else?
I think female vocal with my boss guitar could be a hit. Right producer required. Listen to Faithful.
