DJ Sima

DJ Sima has been successfully DJ'ing now since he was about 14 years old. Playing various types of music, dance, speed garage, r'n'b, uk garage and d'n'b.
Tell me about your history? How did you get where you are now?
I started DJing when I was about 14, just getting into the sort of club vibe and partying, drinkin and all that sort of stuff. I went to this one party that was my mate's brother's and he had charged ppl to get in, but they had this dj there, who was playing all the old & new garage tunes, which is when I thought I wanna get sum decks. As you know there well expensive, but I found some bargin ones so I got them. I started off, just buying commercial dance and garage. But there gets a point where you realise you need some of dem tunes ppl cant get on cd's or havent already herd on the radio. So I started looking for some proper dj shops instead of the HMV store. That's when I started to get alot better, having tunes that other dj's wanted but didnt no what they are! I started to go into drum n bass as well as garage and dance. So from practicing in my own home, I went onto do some mixing at one or two parties, alongside the main dj. After a while though the booze just gets too much and you fink fuck it, i cant b arsed! But neways, I've helped dj for a little at some parties and then just DJing whenever I could. O ye, if your finkin of bein a dj but r doin well in skool, wait til u finish skool, bcus it'll happen to you like it did to me, u fuk up and end up with sum C's, D's, E's and an F. I tell ya now though, DJing kills skool for a joke, so if u wana fuk up come and join me! I left skool jus b4 i was 16, finishin my gcse's and basically goin out everyday chillin in da summer up solihull, still managing to fit in the odd dj session or two. I turned 16 in july 2003 and had a small piss up with some of my mates and my girlfriend round at my house. It was a class night, had my system on the go and the booze flying all over the place, big up that night! I'm tellin ya, dont do nefin wen u leave skool for about a year, cus it'll b the best time of ya life, cus i missed out on it all starting an apprentiship in carpentry to become a pro builder! Keeping the DJing on the go, I was gettin in from work and havin a quick blast on da decks and then chillin. I also produced a mix tape of all the latest speed garage tunes in april 2004, it was quite good, many people got there hands on a copy of the tape and there are still some around now. Impressive 27 tunes remixed in a one hour set. I did a couple of sets for a fly-by internet radio station that was up and running for just over 2 months called Scouse Tunez Radio in spring 2004. As this closed down, I decided it upon myself that I would do what I had been planning to do for a long time, and that was try and set-up my internet radio station, I got it online in June 2004, and I managed to get 10 DJ's lined up for a weekly schedule, including myself of course. Unfortunatley though, die to the lack of dosh I had to close it after a month. Maybe Future Radio will make a come back sometime soon! I have plans to go on other net radio stations to carry on blasting out them tunes to ppl! To be continued...
Have you performed live in front of an audience? Any special memories?
I have played live on many internet radio stations and love the feeling you get knowing people all over the world can hear you! I have also played some small private parties too.
Your musical influences
When I look around at what dance music comes through the charts they influence the way I mix, as I only spin what I think sounds good or I know will get the crowd dancing to.
What equipment do you use?
I'm currently replacing my home studio, so I'll let you know once it's complete.
