I am an engineer, remixer, film composer, bass player and producer.  I am currently working with new artists who are trying to get major deals.  Develping new artists is what I've always wanted to do even when I'm producing high profile projects.

Band/artist history

The short story:  I played bass in my high school Jazz Band...we went to Europe...I got 2 scholarships to Berklee College of Music...interned at large New York studio...worked in a Florida studio...joined a band...toured...got recruited to run a major production company' studio in Atlanta (my first professional exposure with celebrities)...moved back to California to write a book about music business stuff...worked at a music library studio...landed a major film gig...built my first high-end personal digital studio...started mixing records again...Now I'm just waiting for bonuses, grammy nominations, and the royalty checks for a top selling record.

Have you performed in front of an audience?

With the production schedule on the increase, there is not much time to play live. I miss playing the bass on stage. I learned most of my techniques from Louis Johnson (Bass player from the Brothers Johnson). When I was a kid, I used to spend my allowance buying their records & going to their concerts...I met him in a music store when I first started player the bass. Louis is the coolest bass player I know...

My main influences are:  Quincy Jones, The Brothers Johnson, Jam & Lewis, Chilli Peppers, Korn, Dr. Dre, Hans Zimmer, Mike Post, Philip Glass, BT, and Stanley Clarke.

What equipment do you use?

I use Pro Tools HD3 & Logic Pro with a Apogee Rosetta 800, a modified Allen&Heath GS3000 (with the NOS Telefunken tubes), SSL Bus Compressor (modified), Neve 8803 EQ, Masterlink, All Apple Logic software synths, Roland XV3080 & RS9, Emu E6400, Motif, SDGR 5 string bass, Fender American Strat, Bass & Guitar Pod Pros, Roland TD10 V-Drums, Mackie/Yamaha Monitors, and some other really cool toys.

Anything else?

The music business is really changing just like I thought it would, and I'm proving that innovation is the key to surviving those changes.  Even in an economic downturn, artists cannot be afraid to go for the gold just because they may fail.  Success is about reaching as many people as possible.  The notion that artists should never do business with corporate entertainment companies for fear of selling out is just silly.  People who say that don't know how fun it is to succeed.
