Hi Ben, yeah I get a bit excited when I hear good music. It was worth it.
Thanks for your excellent comments, appreciate it.
And yes, mastering and mixing it turns out are my biggest struggle. Oh well, still learning. One BIG help has been the purchase of some proper studio monitors - they really help clean up your sound. My tracks at the bottom of the list were all done with just PC speakers too! If you can, get some monitors.
Made some tracks available for download so go grab 'em. Let me know if you want any more.
Take it easy nursing that hangover !
Cool, thanks.

* Caution * The following comments are the rantings of a new fan!
Right then - I've just lost my mind!
Downloaded everyone of them. SO glad I found you - best artist for my tastes. I am all over this sound! Forward thinking house music - electro-gressive indeed - how apt. Thank your genre-nazi friend for that new sub-genre! Voted hot etc .. added you to everywhere I can and am spreading the word.
Warm Chill - deep, minimal - great flow, unexpected changes. Builds beautifully, excellent transition to the breakdown and a beautiful bring back to the peak. Love it.
Dubalub This - Intro is spot on. Sounds like a Way Out West track. I like the vox treatment. Cool. Creepy. Soaring. Just ... ohh yum
Broken Glass - Another filthy dubby intro - ooohyeahrr I'm fookin feeling it man! God, it's getting heavier, I can't take it. Now we're blissing out. What's going on inside your head, man? Delicious house music.
sumthink - Here we go with sumthink sounding like a slice of Hip-E

Ben - DUDE! I'm in QLD. We have a similar life story, and practically exact same tastes in DJ's (NOT Oakey). I'm about to check out your stuff.
I'm doing music the same way you are - not overly serious about it - PC based - just giving it a tilt. Got a bit bored with standing behind the decks playing other people's tunes and decided to see (10 years too late!) if I could produce a half-decent track.
I would really like it if you took some time to give my stuff a listen and share your thoughts. I'm sure there is something you will find ... interesting, at best, hehe.
Digweed still rules (in my opinion).
My comments/review to follow ....

just checked out "sumthink" - good stuff! only noticable issue with the mix is that distorted bass sweep: as it gets louder the kick drum gets audibly quieter - seems like a compression issue. i'm guessing you've used compression on the kick but not on that bass - which may be why the kick drum's volume adjusts in response to the bass. if you have used compression on the bass, then i'd say the settings need tweaking a little. other than that, the mix sounded fine. ;)

Hey man, what's up? Thanks for the GIGANTIC post on my board, lol. Wow.
About the comment on "Frost Roses", the piece was sequenced from start to finished. I'm not a pianist, and the only thing I use my controller for is to audition sounds and noodle around when I'm composing melodies. A lot of people have said that song sounds like it was played by a real person, so I guess all my work on it payed off. The key is the know what it is that makes a song sound "human", and how to achieve this in a sequencer. After composing the piece, I edited the velocity of each note to give the passages phrasing. Without phrasing you got a stiff, robotic piece that sounds nothing at all like a real person. Then I ran the piece through a humanizer plugin, to get rid of the machine-like precision of sequencing. Even the best pianist in the world doesn't play notes precisely in time. Lastly I spent a lot of time on the tempo. A pianist will alter their tempo slightly throughout the entire so

You've got a nice, dark, minimalist quality to your sound.
Don't knock the production quality. It's not bad for 'homemade' music. Not bad at all.
Doesn't really sound like "House" to me, albeit I'm not that familiar with the genre. What it does remind me of is the old Wax Trax stuff. My Life With The Thrill Kill Kult in particular:

Dunno if you've heard of 'em, but you should give 'em a listen and see if you can't expand your horizons a little. I think they, and bands like them, might give you some good ideas.
"dae", a guy I know named Clint really, that's his project, did the chipmunk vocals. He asked me to remix "The End" for him, and I wasn't having any good (serious) ideas, so I decided to up the vocal pitch 100% and make a chipmunk song. I didn't even listen to the original, just built around the chipmunk vocals. You can have a copy of the mix if you want; just gimme your email.

I am checking out your latest song and I think the sound quality you get it great. Is that old saying you don't know how ot get good sound? Sounds good to me. Anyhow interesting track, almost a little too dark for me but it still is good.
Hi mate, just been listening to those tunes of yours, you weren't kidding about "sumthink" my speaker cones were flapping all over the place, house isn't normally my cup of tea, but i spose i've just heard the cheesy generic stuff and it put me off, but this is good, really enjoyed it. I was reading in your main about you losing your tracks/samples/data, i had a major one of those about 2 years ago, i still haven't fully recovered, sounds a bit over dramatic but i lost everything, over 100 finished tracks, 100s of unfinished ones and all my samples/presets, i didn't create anything for a year after that, i didn't have the heart, just wasn't in it, i still haven't got the same flow as i had. I won't ask you to check out my tracks, i'm not sure you'd get on with them, but if you do find one you like, let me know, if you don't listen to my tracks just say hello anyway. <
