Divider is an EBM based electonic act from Riverside California. The sound of divider ranges from Synthpop to hard electonic breakbeats.
However, one could easily group Divider's sound with the current "Future-Pop" scene. Divider's music fits in with Assemblage 23, VNV Nation, Razed In Black, and Icon Of Coil.
While featuring a modern "Future-Pop" aesthetic, Divider's sound owes much to the old EBM pioneers. Divider has been heavily influenced by industrial legends Benestrophe, Mentallo & the Fixer, Fektion Fekler, Portion Control, Fad Gadget, DAF, Electro Assassin,Front 242, and Front Line Assembly. Of course there are many more influences to mention but this limited space does not allow a fully detailed list.
With all of the various influences on Divider, the only proper definition of Divider's sound would be: Progressive Electronic Body Music.Have you performed in front of an audience?I haven't played live yet. I'm not sure how that could be done at this point. Divider is based in the realm of digital audio. I do want to play live. If I do, it will be more or less like Haujobb and VNV Nation; you'll see a couple of guys on lap tops and a vocalist. I'm not sure that I want to involve my synths in a live show; There gettin' old. I might use live drums though.
Your musical influences
I love EBM. I like everything from D.A.F. to Icon Of Coil. It seems that any list I could think of would be to long for this limited space. However, I'll just mention a few more bands that are definitely influenctial: Lassigue Bendthaus, Godflesh, New Order, Killing Joke, Devo, X Marks The Pedwalk, Plastikman, Underworld, Yendri, Snog, Mars Volta, etc... Being a student of analytic philosophy has also played a role in the content of Divider's lyrics. However, for an answer about how Divider sounds; Divider can easily be grouped with Assemblage 23, Razed in Black, and Icon Of Coil.
However, Divider's sound varies. What equipment do you use?
I use a strange combination of gear and software. Gearwise I have and use the following: Solton MS 60, Yamaha V50, Boss Dr 202, Boss Sp 202, and finally a Roland Juno 106. Interesting story about the Juno, my wife baught if off Gary Dassing (from Mentallo & the Fixer). The only software I use is MagixAudio Studio 7. My good friend Aaron Hall (of Lotus Divide) does some mastering for me. He is a softsynth based musician; he primarily uses Reason and Reactor.Anything else?
I did a remix for industrial-EBM band Regenerator on their album, "Regenerated X" (US version). It's the last track on the album:"Lightbringer (enlightenment mix by Divider). I did that re-mix a few years ago on just my Sp 202, Solton MS 60 and a panasonic mini-disc recorder. My oh my how times have changed. Divider has also contributed a track to the upcoming Mentallo and the Fixer Tribute album; the cover is of "Inner Peace".divider's station

Oh, my. We are bad friends. I told Matt the other day "Oh my gosh, we missed Bryon's show" and he was like, "I know, I talked to him...". Sorry we weren't there...we are big losers! Well, we are working on the big part cuz we were at the gym instead ;)
Take care,
LoriThe first Divider live show went well. There was only one error and it was brief. After that, the only problem is that NOBODY SHOWED UP! It's ok though, we got through it fairly well. It felt quite natural to be on stage. We hope to do it again in the near future. Wrex from Regenerator recorded our performance on video camera. Hopefully we can make that recording availble in the near future.
Till next time,
